Oscar Griswold Dies After Long Illness At 59
Oscar Cornelius Griswold a York township native and longtime Thomson resident died January 28 1926 at his home after a long cancer of the bowels illness His life centered in York township and Thomson where he worked as a carpenter then paperhanger and barber He leaves a wife Cora B Hicok five children two of whom died in infancy two sons Merle D and Merna and daughter Mrs Dale Leavens, plus his aged mother two brothers and three sisters Four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews survive Funeral services were held at the Methodist church conducted by Revs Clark Williams and A G Prestage with Odd Fellows at the gravesite continue as pallbearers and Nobie Grand L I Gaar closing services

Pippert Bros of Rock Falls topped the heavy steel market at Chicago on January 26 with $11.40 per hundredweight for a fancy shipment of 50 Hereford cattle averaging 1 470 pounds. Market receipts totaled 10 000 with many long fed stock. The cattle, bought last September, were fattened on torn, cotton seed meal and alfalfa. Feeding was by Ralph Pemberton, a nine year producer of top whiteface lots.
