Betty Crocker Winner At Thomson High

Luanne Frosch finished first in a written homemaking knowledge exam at Thomson High School on December 6 1967 earning the school’s Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow title. She becomes eligible for state and national scholarship awards with a silver charm from General Mills. A state winner receives a $1 500 college scholarship and Encyclopaedia Britannica for the school. runner-up gets a $500 grant. The state winner and others will join an expense paid educational tour to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington DC next spring.

Irrigation Meeting Set For February 6 At High School

A special meeting for farmers on irrigation costs, returns, and systems will be held Monday February 6 at 730 PM in the high school Ag room. The event, in cooperation with the Extension Service, features University of Illinois Engineer Carroll Drabbs. All interested are welcome. Mr and Mrs Willard Peters of Sterling visited Merle Bielema and family Wednesday evening.

Mrs Emil Bellich chairs the March of Dimes drive in Thomson with PTA support. Total collected 21.72 with the Mother's March contributions in Thomson 159.16 Riverview 16.70 Grandview 5.30 Argo Fay 31.35. School collections reached 42.85 and coin canisters 6.35.

PTA Program on Junior Colleges Feb 9

The Thomson PTA will hold its February meeting on February 9 at 8 PM in the school cafeteria. Sauk Valley Junior College representatives will discuss junior colleges, aiding high school students and families. A brochure will be mailed soon, and an PTA scholarship fund skit led by Mrs. Lloyd Bruckner will be performed.

Couple Attends Let's Make A Deal in Twin Cities

Mr. and Mrs. Don Schoen spent four days in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and attended the TV show Let's Make A Deal on Channel 6 at 12 30 PM daily.

Rites Held Saturday For Peter Drolema

Peter Drolema 53 of rural Morrison died Wednesday at Morrison Community Hospital where he had been treated since January 14. Funeral services were at Spring Valley Reformed church with burial in Fulton Cemetery. He was born August 23, 1913 in Garden Plain and married Ruth Lissens in 1939. The couple farmed north of Morrison since 1948 and he served as church elder and deacon and as a Spring Valley school director. He is survived by his wife Ruth a son Robert a daughter Carolyn Houzenga a grandchild and a brother Richard.

Thompson PTA Set Next Thursday Meeting in School Cafeteria

The Thomson PTA plans a Thursday evening gathering in the school cafeteria with a program on Sauk Valley Junior College. Hostesses include Curtis Pilgrim Don Cox Don Wiersema Rob Appel and Serbert Dykstra. The Woman's Club meets tonight for a 6 30 potluck in the cafeteria with Channel 8 Jim King as speaker. A 4H Cedarettes makeup meeting scheduled for Feb 6 at 7 30 PM at the Legion hall replaces the December meeting. Holland Family Returns From Mesa Arizona Visit

Mrs Bess French and Miss Ann Holland along with Hobart Holland returned Sunday from Mesa Arizona where the two women spent several weeks. Hobart drove the ladies home after arriving by train. Mr and Mrs Edward Holland and daughter of Manchester Tennessee visited in Mesa for a week. Edward is Hobart Hollands son. Mr and Mrs Harold Witt stayed with Mr and Mrs Ralph Irion at Morrison overnight Saturday. Mrs Warren Waltrip teaches fourth grade at Garden Plain Elementary School.

Iske Re elected Farm Bureau Board President at Carroll County meeting

Carroll County Farm Bureau elects Emerson Iske of Lima as President of the Board for a one year term at the annual meeting held January 28 in Mount Carroll High School gymnasium. The event drew an estimated 400 to 500 attendees and featured reports, talks on casualty insurance and agriculture, plus musical entertainment and a box lunch.

Episcopal conference set at Shimer College Mount Carroll

Mount Carroll Illinois will host a February 2 meeting of Episcopal chaplains and church workers from seven Illinois colleges and universities plus other clergy. The 20 person panel is led by Very Reverend William F Maxwell Jr and Dr Wallace Lonergan with Reverend Robert Hall as host at Shimer College. Meanwhile a chili supper fundraiser netted 106 dollars for the Band Boosters. Other community notes include Mrs Faun Strubb’s return to Caroline Mark Home after eye surgery in Freeport and visits by local residents at various homes.

Mrs. Marvin Hartman Dies at 42 in Lanark

Mrs. Marvin Hartman 42 of Lanark died about 6 PM Monday at St. Clare Hospital Monroe Wisconsin after long illness. Funeral held 2 PM Wednesday at Franks Funeral Home Lanark with Rev. Riverview Woman Skids on Icy Route 84 Near Fulton

Mrs. LaVere Kness of Riverview escaped serious injury when her late model Pontiac skidded on Route 84 one half mile north of Fulton during a heavy snowstorm, hitting a tree. The vehicle sustained $600 damage. she suffered only a head bump and a finger cut.
