Mrs Vera Martindale In Morrison Hospital

Former Thomson resident Mrs. Vera Martindale is in serious condition at Morrison Community Hospital in room 222 after being taken by ambulance January 23 from the Appel home in Chadwick. Blood transfusions occurred Thursday and Friday of last week. Edward Bell visited with the Appels on Friday. other visitors included John Bierman Maurice Larson and Arlyn. Don Yamnitz hosted Sunday supper for the Biermans with Mrs Bierman’s birthday observed.

W. L. Hanna of Savanna was fined 2 dollars plus costs for a worthless check after pleading guilty. Calvin Coon of Elizabeth and Robert A. Gehrts of Galena also pleaded guilty or admitted passing checks and paid fines and restitution. George Streicher of Mt. Carroll and Floyd Noble and Larry Noble of Savanna faced further actions, with Nobles sentenced to one year at Vandalia penal farm and Fosdick placed on probation.

Break-ins across multiple towns reported on Route 64

Robbery at Brookville filling station on Route 64 east of Lanark saw twenty cartons of cigarets, small change, and a table radio stolen after breaking the front door. Chief Derete over Gorman noted similar entries at Woosung Polo and Lee Center that night, suggesting one group may be responsible.

Woman Struck by Prowlers at Thompson Farm Barn

Mrs. Dimmick reported two men prowling the Ben Dimmick farm barn north east of Thomson. one struck her as she investigated with an unloaded rifle and her dog. The men fled after the dog was kicked. motive appears to be chicken theft. Chief Deputy Gorman investigated Monday night.

Thieves Take Hog From Farm Near Shannon

Clarence Warnesbecker reported to the sheriff that a 250 pound hog was stolen from the Robert Erdmier farm about 20 miles northwest of Shannon Sunday night. Investigators said the hog was killed in the pen, bled, and carried away after being dumped over a fence. A second farm in Stephenson County reportedly lost two hogs the same night.

1961 Deer Season Outcomes in Illinois Hunters See More Bucks in South

Springfield reports the 1961 shotgun deer season yielded 4323 deer with 1772 adult bucks and 1101 adult does. Southern Illinois hunters spent about seven hours afield, contrasted with northern hunters averaging under two hours. Green Giant Cited in Illinois Stream Pollution Suit

The State of Illinois seeks 105178.22 in nine cases of alleged stream pollution that killed fish over five months last year. Clarence W. Klassen of the Public Health Department noted the suit by the State Sanitary Water Board. Green Giant Canning Co. is named for discharges from pea vine stocks into Pine Creek Mount Morris and Straddle Creek Lanark. Damages include 8483.68 for Mount Morris and 1533.32 for Lanark. Recovered funds would go to the Fish and Game Fund for restocking.
