Babson outlines business, labor, and farm outlooks for 1947 noting a migration from coastal cities to interior centers, continued reconversion from wartime production, rising retail prices, and heightened labor tensions. It forecasts higher wage costs, steady retail volumes, abundant farm output, and persistent foreign trade expansion despite global competition.
J W Erdmier named chairman of county committee with Herman Daehler and Ed L Dauphin as members at recent AAA election in Carroll County. Alternates are Earl C Burkholder and Henry Miller. Four new faces join community committees, others unchanged across districts such as Fair Haven York Rock Creek Lima Wysox Elkhorn Grove Cherry Grove Shannon Freedom Savanna Washington Salem and Woodland.
Thomson families hosted and visited over Christmas with relatives from Lanark Eureka Savanna Dixon Morrison Evanston and Chicago. Attendees included the Foxes Sweitzers Coopers Staggs Hall Marshalls and many others sharing meals dinners and holiday time.
Announcement that no issue of the Review will be published next week Thursday January 2 due to staff vacation from December 27 through January 2, impacting publication schedule.
Bertha Brenneman, chairman of the White Cross, received a letter of thanks for the White Cross package sent to Brooks House by the Baptist church. The gifts support the Hammond Christian center’s ministry and allow expansion of services to aid people in the region.
Bradley Dean Huggins eight weeks old died at 3 30 a m today at the Huggins farm home northeast of Thomson. Funeral services set for 2 30 p m Saturday at Fay funeral home in Fulton. Survived by parents Ralph and (Mrs) Huggins and Leroy and (Mrs) Flynn grandparents and a 17 month old brother.
Local notes list numerous Christmas and holiday visits and dinners among Thomson residents and relatives in Morrison Lanark Clinton Dixon and Rock Island. Guests include the Smiths Wilt Lillie Starck Brown Stage Miller and many others with travel from Chicago Spokane and Arizona.

Darlene Carroll of Thomson suffered first and second degree burns after a fall down basement stairs at a neighbor’s house one mile north of Thomson. She twisted her ankle, hot water splashed over her, and she was taken to Savanna City hospital for treatment. She is a sixth grade pupil at Thomson Consolidated School.
Clyde Carpenter and his wife plan to move to Evanston next week so he can study for the ministry at Evanston Collegiate Institute. He will take a student charge in January at the Methodist church in Fairdale.
Christmas program at Baptist Church features opening song Joy to the World with Rev. Gillespie prayer and Otto Switzer greeting. Readings include Away in A Manger by the primary class and Christmas Story by George St. Ores with Marian Smith and Mildred Brach in a duet.
A newspaper note lists numerous Christmas gifts and sending addresses. Harold Witt to George Lenders in DeWitt Iowa and Wm Boylan to his sister in Savanna Illinois are among many transfers. Other recipients include Bertha Holland, Mrs. Harvey Seim, Rev. Prestage, Grover Brenneman, and several Libbertons and Wiebengas across Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Michigan.
Mr and Mrs Roger Gillespie of Thomson welcomed a son born Sunday December 22 in Savanna City Hospital.
Churches report a capacity crowd for Sunday services and a fine Christmas story and songs. Volunteers gave 40 hours to the program. Due to heating issues Argo will adjust service times for a month including 1:20 pm Sunday school and 2:40 pm worship. Sermon theme centers on “The Vision of the Unattainable.” New Year reflections urge spiritual renewal.
Numerous families in Lanark Fulton Morrison Morrison and Clinton shared Christmas dinners and visits. Guests included Mrs Charles Ditteworth Mrs Robert Groharing Miss Jean Lawson Betty Blair and many other relatives with gatherings at the Stransky VFW hall and homes of the Green family Boyce family and Gaar family among others. A funeral in Clinton and a past auto accident near Fulton are noted in passages.
Funeral services for Mrs Frank Potter 66 were conducted today in the York Community church with Rev T Stuart Cleworth officiating. Burial was in Lower York cemetery. She was born Lizzie Groharing in Thomson in 1890 and married Frank Potter in 1909. Surviving are her husband a brother and a sister and several nieces and nephews.
Frank Schade of Lake Beulah Wisconsin died Monday morning December 24 1946 after a stroke a week earlier. He was never married and farmed with his brother Fen Schade on the family homestead. He was the brother of the late John Schade of Thomson.
The 500 club awarded prizes to Amelia Sack Amy Lewis Hortense Nipe and Lieta Johansen at a Thursday gathering hosted by Mrs. Sack. Future meetings are set with Hortense Nipe Jan 2 1947 and the W W C S will meet Jan 8 at Mrs. Virgil Wilt's home.
Mrs. Otto Switzer chair of the U S O says contributions are coming in and work should finish by the first of the year. Reporters finished include Mrs. Heusinkveld, Mrs. Witt, Sylvia Witt, Gladys Cooper, Mrs. Halfman, Marie Kemmer, Dorothy Carroll, Mrs. Hans and Esther Schmaling. Six remain to submit.
Thomson Ladies won one and lost to May’s. Thomson Sack and McBride lost all three to Thomson No. 1. Thomson Farmers won two and lost one against Moose No. 2.
Mr and Mrs Fred Doden hosted a Sunday Christmas dinner with relatives from Fulton Morrison Sterling Wacker and two grandchildren Everette Yates of Sterling and Blaine Yates of Wacker Also guests at Lloyd Smiths home included Calvern Eslinger and sons Edson and Gilbert Holland Emil Brach and Phillip Rebecca Holland And Christmas Eve visitors at Ben Stages included Chas Stage Joan Robert Stage Beverly Richard of Rock Island and Kenneth Kemmer and son Stevie
The Frank Smith family and relatives gathered at Mrs. Esther Neuschwanger’s Mt. Carroll home for their annual Christmas dinner and gift exchange. Fifty one family members attended with guests including Mrs. Hatti Gebr of Mr. Carroll.
A miscellaneous shower Thursday evening December 19 at Mrs Anson Metagar home honored Miss Gladys Cooper who will be married. Mrs Margaret Murray won high prize Irene Weatherwax won low and gave prizes to the bride to be. Attendees included Mia John Cooper Mrs W Bennett Mrs Har old Witt Glendora Schade Mary Sheridan Irene Weatherwax Helen Hand Sophia Mc Namara Leota Holland and others. A Christmas themed lunch of brown bread sandwiches jello salad cake and coffee was served.
Mr and Mrs Clair Rollings and son Clair spent holidays with parents in Minneapolis. Mr and Mrs Mervin Marshall visited Bertha Marshall in Rock Falls. Hemmer family hosted Doris Weitkamp and guests Elgin and Westcamp before they headed to Stendal Indiana. Various Carrolls Gelwicks Curley Huggins and Smith relatives joined in homecomings for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
