Donna Woessner, a seventh grader from Straw district near Shannon, won the Carroll County elementary schools spelling title after besting 12 rivals. Shannon high cagers defeated Chadwick high 20 to 14 Friday night to win the Shannon invitational tournament for the first time since the event began. York Community High of Thomson took third by beating Elizabeth High 86 to 22 in the consolation game. The Shannon trophy was presented by the district superintendent after the final. Shannon advanced to the final by routing Leaf River 31 to 13 and defeating Elizabeth 35 to 18 in the semifinals.

Lanark mourns Emma Gertrude White 81 a Lanark native and longtime educator who taught in Sandridge Dixon Wheaton and Evanston before retiring to Lanark where she ran the city library. Surviving are a brother Henry White and a niece Mrs. W. S. Feldwisch with parents and two sisters preceding her. Also noted are obituaries for Mrs. Robert Warfel and P. Freenort Man Hurt In Crash With Carroll Car
Freeman Everhart 80 of Freeport suffered severe head and facial injuries last Thursday when the auto he rode in collided with a machine driven by Herbert Schmidt of Mt Carroll on a travel road two miles west of Pearl City. Everhart was thrown through the windshield. The Schmidt car occupants escaped with minor cuts and bruises.

Orval Rosenberg of Chadwick and Robert Grissinger of Savanna are officially listed as missing following the Pearl Harbor raid. Orval served on the U S S Arizona since shortly after enlisting in 1988, while Grissinger was aboard the same ship. A third relative, Charles Bull, stationed at Honolulu, reports he is safe.
