Office of Mogens Ipsen says $39,624 for WPA work will be spent in Carroll County by July 1 to complete nine active projects. Ipsen disputes claims that recent federal withdrawals will hinder the program and expects additional allotments from Washington to sustain work through July. District totals show northern counties with about $41,000,600 allocated and $6,221,492 needed to finish 362 projects, with Ipsen noting district quotas will rise as needed.
Leo Haliman of Route 80 south of Savanna sustained severe damage to his right eye Thursday morning after a wood cutting accident at the J. W. Miller farm east of Savanna. A splinter penetrated the cornea. doctors say he will not lose sight.
Fair prices were realized at the auction sale of estates belonging to the closed First National Bank of Lanark. A large crowd attended the sale with Eskew property on North Broad Street selling for 2000 to James Van Buskirk, J. A. Boyd property on East Pranklin Street bringing 1700 to James Van Buskirk, Brath Bray property on Dame Avenue for 625 to Irvits Frederick, William C. Farmers heard details of new corn hog contracts effective 1935 36 under AAA at a Dixon meeting led by Lee R Gentry and Earl Brillington. Contracts run two years with government termination options and single 1936 payment, payments set by yield and acres. The Mississippi River froze over at Savanna late Friday for the season. Heavy floes filled the river for days as plans were discussed to rope off a section of ice near the elevator for safe night skating this winter.

Miss Minnie Encelhing, 68, a county resident and coed, died at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Victor Dauphin farm home five miles east of Savanna. Funeral services were held Monday at Law funeral home after a short prayer at the Dauphin home. The Rev. Karl Kamniger of Polo officiated. Burial was in Savanna cemetery. Surviving relatives include an aunt, Mrs. Sophia Warmer of Wacker.

Hurt dramatic and musical talent will compete in a state tournament at Urbana January 16 in connection with Fern and Art week sponsored by University of Silingis college of agriculture. Lindstie says 50 or more counties will enter groups in district tryouts, with winners meeting in Urbana finals. One act plays, men's, women's and mixed quartets and orchestras will be entered. District sites include Polo January 9 and counties Carroll Jo Daviess Whiteside Lee Ogle Stephenson. Homer Curtiss of Stockton is chairman.
Carroll county supervisors unanimously approved paying 100 in rent for the Illinois Emergency Relief commission office in Savanna for the past five months. The vote clears the threat of eviction but towns without relief aid voiced opposition and a move to Mt Carroll was steered by a committee to locate suitable quarters.
Heavy snowfall Sunday left the county with a white Christmas mood while motorists faced poor visibility and slick roads. Snowplows cleared many highways, but urban streets remained troubled. A stock truck slid into a ditch near Mt Carroll, with no injuries, as drivers reported several near misses and ongoing, cautious travel by Monday.

The American Legion post in Mt Carroll received a silver cup as second place for the oldest automobile at the national contention in St Louis last summer. The car, a 1944 Studebaker, is owned by William Miller of Woodland township and has logged over 200000 miles. Miller, member of the Carroll Le Riot post, drove it to the contest.
