Deaths and fires noted in Maywood county home letters

In a letter from 316 Pine St Maywood Illinois residents recount several deaths and new faces in their building. A small fire near the janitor’s area was quickly contained by the fire department. Funeral services were held for Robert Dyson 75 in York Community church Thomson with burial at Lower York cemetery. Dyson born March 18 1868 in York township was unmarried with surviving nephews nieces and cousins. He had suffered heart trouble and lived in Thomson before moving to the county home at Mt Carroll.

Bernie Hook of the navy air corps returns from Milligan Tennessee for a furlough. Pvt Wayne Drake transferred from Camp Wolters Texas to Fort Benning Georgia to attend parachute school.

Coen, a former York Community high school teacher, is praised by friends here for the decoration. Mrs Laura Sardam of Fulton and nurse Mrs Bull and Mr and Mrs Lewis of Rock Island visited in the home of Mrs Emma Steele and Miss Emma Kling. Sardam suffered a stroke over a year ago and is much improved in Thomson.

Mr and Mrs George St Ores marked their 52nd wedding anniversary yesterday. They have three grandsons in the army Marvin son of Carl St Ores Davenport Leslie son of Harold St Ores Thomson and Wayne son of Willis Savanna. Their son in law Dan Sack will leave for service in January.

Christmas church pageant and services at local faiths

The parish report covers a Christmas pageant with soldiers from Savanna proving grounds performing on stage. Pup the terrier dies at the Strukhoff home. the dog belonged to Mr Strukhoff's father and was brought to Thomson about ten years ago. A small audience at the high school gym heard Christmas carols and performances by local schools.
