This piece paints Christmas as a time of family, neighborly cheer, carols, bells, and scents while warning that carelessness turns festive scenes into tragedy. It notes three quarters of fires arise from negligence and urges careful behavior to keep homes safe.

Increases Planned for Social Security Child Benefits

More than 900000 children receive survivors benefits under the 1960 amendments. Amendments Extend Benefits for Disabled Workers Returning to Work

Provisions let beneficiaries who go to work while disabled retain benefits for 12 months, with a nine month work test followed by a six month look at regained capacity. If able to work substantially, benefits continue three more months before ending. The 9 months need not be consecutive and workers must notify the Social Security Administration.

Rework to Stop Second 6 Month Waiting for Disabled Workers

Congress notes many return to work despite serious impairment and wants to avoid depriving families of earnings. Over 20 000 people yearly would benefit by fewer delays in disability support.
