The U S Army Corps of Engineers adds nineteen public use areas in the Rock Island District to boost fishing hunting camping and picnicking along the Mississippi River. Areas are marked with signs to guide public access and support multiple uses of federal lands and waters.
The Corps of Engineers expanded public use areas along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. Key sites include Cat Tail Slough south of the Clinton Gateway Bridge with parking for 15 cars and 10 picnic tables, Miller's Hollow near Savanna with a 4,240 by 60 foot boat channel, Thomson Causeway west of Thorson adding campsites and restrooms, and Big Slough north of Thomson with launching ramps and camping. World War II metal airfield mats aided ramp improvements in 1963, and registration desks were installed to collect attendance and feedback.
Timber Lake Playhouse will present two musical comedies The Pajama Game and Fiddler on the Roof as headliners for its 1964 season. Mary Mary opens on June with Miracle Worker and A Servant of Two Masters among children attractions. The season also includes Blood Sweat and Stanley Poole Born Yesterday and J B. The board approved a revised Club Plan to boost subscription sales.
