Charles M. Kingery, 78, longtime Chadwick resident, died suddenly at 2:30 a m Sunday after flu illness. He served as cashier at First National Bank in Chadwick for years and helped organize local government. He leaves wife Eda and four children, with services held at his home and burial in Oak Hill cemetery Mt Carroll.

Final rites for 74 year old Mrs Anna Weber who died of a heart attack in Chadwick were held December 11. A home service at 1 45 p m preceded a 2 p m service at Hope EUB church with Rev J G Eller and Rev T R Moritz presiding. Burial followed in Chanwick cemetery. A quartet sang and floral tributes were arranged by local volunteers. Casket attendants listed include Bask Mest Christy Geison Co H Imel Charles Harris Albert Schreiner and Henry Hinkel.
Shannon beat Chadwick 64 31 on Chadwick’s home floor as Dreser led with 16 points and Copperwell and Rodermel added 12 each. Chadwick’s Wager topped the local score with nine. Shannon reserves won 37 36 in a tight preliminary.
Funeral services were held for Fred Weidman 70 Mt Carroll who died in East Moline. Miss Mary Edwards 81 Carroll County native buried Woodland Cemetery. Mrs Lillian Hellyer 81 of Mount Carroll buried Oak Hill Cemetery after dying at home. Survived by multiple siblings and children across Mt Carroll Savanna Minneapolis Chicago Wheaton.
The Middle States Telephone Company of Illinois becomes the name for the former Illinois Northwestern Telephone, serving Savanna Mt Carroll Thomson and other towns. A. B. Clark of La Crosse Wisconsin notes the name change follows formal affiliating with the Middle States system. Central Telephone Company owns the property since July 1946 with headquarters in Lincoln Nebraska.
Mr and Mrs William Cambman marked 32 years with a surprise Monday gathering. Guests included Mr and Mrs Walter Jacobs and family plus Elmer Fink and Vernon, Paul Adams and others. Progresive pitch was played, a gift was presented, and refreshments were served. George Morgan and Mrs Morgan visited Polo relatives nearby.
Muriel Kness leaves for New York City on Monday en route to Frankfort Germany to serve as a civilian army employee. Relatives hosted a dinner at her parents home Mr and Mrs Carl Kness and the group included several Fruit and Johnson families from Kirkland Creston DeKalb and Franklin Grove.
Earl Williamson aged 40 of Mt. Carroll died Friday afternoon when his car sped down a hill, hit a tree and plunged into a stream bank. A coroner's jury attributed death to head and chest injuries from loss of control after allegedly passing a stop sign. Williamson, on his way home from Law Hatchery, may have fallen ill. Funeral services were held Monday in Mt. Carroll with burial at Zion Cemetery. He is survived by his father, two sisters, and two brothers.
York and Fair Haven Farm Bureau members gathered at Argo School for an evening meeting. Harry Gaar was elected director from York Township and Leslie Durward as alternate. County agent Roske spoke on soil conservation testing fertilizing and insect control. John Andes of Northern Illinois Breeders Association spoke on herd sites. Herschel Hopkins spoke for County Life and Casualty Insurance Co. Music by Janice Ronnie and Geraldine Smith with Hiram Green leading group singing. An oyster supper followed.
Local bowling union reports team standings led by Schreiners Specials and Dairy Maids with Dairy Maids 31 14, Sports Bowl 29 16, Spencer Motors 28 17. Lanark high cagers win 38 to 34 over Mil edgeville Milies at Mil edgeville home. Beavers trailed after three periods with Heckman out and Lanark players Miller and Weber fouling out in the final quarter.
Thirty three F F A members from Chadwick visited Swift & Company during their stay at the International Livestock Exposition. They toured the Chicago plant, the largest in Swift's nationwide network, which uses about 13 1/4 million gallons of water daily. Swift's Agricultural Research staff answered questions on the live stock meat industry and noted that over 1 000 miles separate livestock production from meat consumption. The group learned two thirds of U S livestock is produced west of the Mississippi while two thirds of meat is consumed east of the river.
The Chadwick grade school lightweights fell to Freeport lightweights while Chadwick heavies were defeated by Freeport heavies on Thursday night. A Chadwick squad travels to Freeport Saturday for another matchup. Mr and Mrs Alan Larem and sons Stanley and Alden visited Chicago on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cheeseman were guests at a smoked turkey dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rahn in Medgeville. The event marked Hall’s 80th birthday and the 50th wedding anniversary of the Halls, plus the Cheesemans’ and hosts’ wed anniversaries. Gifts included a silver coffee set for Mrs. Rahn.
Mrs Alvin Larem announces Ramah chapter committees for 1947 48 with members named for Finance Flower Music Examining Eligibilty Rug By Laws Social roles. A school of instruction led by Mrs Carl Klome of Lanark will run Jan 13 with both afternoon and evening sessions followed by a 6 30 pot luck supper and the regular meeting.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Bushman and daughter Susan Jane of Rock Falls visited Sunday with Mrs Bushmans parents Mr and Mrs Charles Honberger. Mr and Mrs Emmett Zumdahl and son Stevie spent Friday evening with George Zumdahl at Shannon.
Black Oak Grange will host a Christmas party this evening in Grange hall at Chadwick. The program committee led by Mrs. Charles Domier Mrs. William Hans and Mrs. Howard Baker has arranged a surprise program with gift exchange and children's treat. Refreshments will be served.
Miss Lenora Queckboerner daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Queckboerner was notified last week that she passed her state board examinations and is now a registered nurse. She completed training at Moline Public Hospital and is employed at Steling Public Hospital.
Thirty members gathered Thursday afternoon December 11 at Mrs George Cambman Jr home for the Chadwick club Christmas program with carols a Christmas story and a quiz Mrs Alvin Hanna Polo former member presented The Ruggles Family and $8 64 was donated to recondition the Veterans Administration chapel in Danville after the meeting refreshments were served by a committee led by Mesdames L A Frank C R Way Elmer Weber James Morgan Lucinda Gipe Harveylock Harve Zugschwerdt Fred Olson and Eda Kingery
Firemen saved only two southwest rooms of a 13 room dwelling on the old Common farm southwest of Chadwick. Loss estimated at 8000 to 10000 dollars as flames swept through quickly, likely sparked by chimney embers. Family unaware until roof was ablaze. Morrison and Chadwick units cooperated with water from cisterns and screens cleared on the Morrison pumper.
Students and teachers will arrive this weekend to spend the Christmas holidays in their homes. Chadwick schools will close Friday for recess and reopen January 5. Faculty members from Chadwick include Miss Frey, Miss Whitford, Miss Lewis, Miss Thomas, Mrs Bushman, Miss Foivel, Miss Molin, Miss Willatt, Coach Morning, Supt. Brett, Paul Unzicker and Melvin Stengel.
The American Red Cross will collect clothing and bedding for the Arthur Brandt family after their home burned last Sunday. Please drop items at Quest's Hardware by Tuesday December 23.
Guests gathered for pre Christmas visits at various homes. Mr and Mrs Mark Remney hosted Mr and Mrs Paul Frank and family of Rock Falls. The Eipper family and Pamela Baldwin planned a Sunday trip to Kewanee to visit Mrs Eippers parents Mr and Mrs S S Baldwin. Mrs Lillian Hohnadle returned from Mitchell Field New York and Chicago. Mr and Mrs William Heide of Coleta visited the Janssen home Sunday afternoon.
A large audience packed the school gym Saturday night to see the Intermediate Girl Scout troop perform The Grumpy Santa Claus. Proceeds totaled $26.90 to buy equipment for the troop. Leaders and assistants included Mrs. George Dambman Jr, Mrs. Miles Byers, Mrs. Elmer Weber, and committee members Mrs. Howard Brett and Mrs. Chas Sucher. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Rahn hosted a family dinner Sunday with guests from Milledgeville and Lanark, including Mr. and Mrs. He Kahahn, Mr. and Mrs. Reynold Bloyer, Mr. and Mrs. Lang, Otho Bloyer, Mrs. Katie Rahn, and Mrs. Clifton Spencer.
