Thomson FFA Members Tour Chicago Highlights

Thomson FFA members toured Chicago December 1 and 2 visiting Quaker Oats Research farms Chicago Board of Trade Tribune Post Office Police Department Museum of Science and Industry Natural History Museum Aquarium Planetarium and Astronomical Museum. The group rode a chartered bus and returned home eager to share stories.

Legion Auxiliary December Meeting and Christmas Party

The Legion Auxiliary meets Monday at 7 30 p m in the Legion hall for a December gathering. Members bring a dollar gift for exchange. Juniors handle the entertainment while adults provide refreshments.

Holiday Tourney Set for Dec 21 22 at Thomson

The Thomson basketball team hosts a two night holiday tournament December 21 and 22. Each night features two games with 6 45 and 8 00 start times. Four teams compete Chadwick Lyndon Scales Mound and Thomson. First night pits Chadwick against Lyndon and Thomson against Scales Mound. Losers play Friday for consolation while winners meet for the championship at 8 00 Friday.

Poster Winners Announced By Woman's Club

The Thomson Woman's Club met in the school cafeteria with Mrs. Robert Carroll presiding as president. Members showcased items from foreign countries and held a silent auction. Kathy Ferguson and Nancy Hartman were named blue ribbon winners in the Farm Bureau Food poster contest. The next meeting is set for January 4, 1968 with citizenship as the topic.

Sharlene Temple a Thomson Illinois junior, 16, was named Coed Correspondent for 1967 68 by CO ED editor Miss Margaret Hauser. Selected for leadership and enthusiasm for home economics she will advise CO ED editors and report school activities.

Double Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Accident Victims

Funeral services were held in Morrison for Richard H. Drolema and his grandson Michael Huizenga who died in a single truck crash on the Spring Valley road near Route 78. Burial followed at Grove Hill cemetery. Drolema, 48, is survived by Genevieve, son Arnold in the Army at Fort Bragg, and daughters Jean and Elaine. Huizenga, 5, was born in Morrison and survived by his mother Vicki Ridge, stepfather Har lan Drolema, a brother Steven, and grandmothers Mrs Richard Drolema and Mrs Julia Ridge.

Sick John Krahn is a surgical patient at Mercy hospital in Clinton Iowa. G A Smith is a medical patient in a Tuscon Arizona hospital after a heart attack. Mr and Mrs Smith enjoy a vacation in a warm climate. Dora Wiebenga ill at home with flu. Garrett Houzenga Fulton is slightly improved. He was seriously injured on December 4 in a fall helping his son Leland harvest corn and remains in Morrison Community hospital.

Couple from Chadwick Wed In Thomson Church

Miss Bessie Ruth Groharing and Ellwood W. Daehler, both of Chadwick, united in marriage December 9 at 7 p.m. in the Thomson Methodist church. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Gerald Bowers. They will reside in Chadwick after a southern wedding trip.

Thomson Teen Club Opens Dance Saturday

The Thomson Teen Club will host its first open dance on Saturday evening December 16 from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the club. Music will be the Sounds of Time by Fulton and a snack bar will be open all night. Donations of 1.00 will be collected at the door. Santa Claus Arrives in Thomson for Saturday Santa Visit

Word reaches Thomson that Santa will fly into Savanna airport this Saturday at 2 00 PM. He will be escorted to the Thomson fire station by firefighters and meet local children. Lions Club and Legion Post will cover Santa's travel expenses from the North Pole.

Deer Bags Publisher Demands Right of Way

The American Legion basketball team of Thomson routed the Nielson Coupon house team 65 to 38 at Clinton Recreation Center in Clinton Iowa. Rick Buckley led with 16 points and the team faces Clinton Herald tonight at 7 45 p m. A deer was killed on route 78 south of Mount Carroll after being struck by a car injuring no one. Jon Whitney co publisher of the Review Publications was uninjured. The Little Tigers extended their win streak to five with wins over Lanark 35 24 and St Iraneus 33 26 led by Bob Zink 18 Tim Halfman 11 and Jim Falls 11.

Jr High Teams Win Road Versus Lanark and St Iranus

The Big Tigers improved to 3-2 by beating Lanark 41-4 and St Iranus 59-27. Robinson Hebeler Hill Dykstra and James scored for the Tigers while Hill and Robinson led rebounding efforts.

Trojans Defeat St Joseph 66 63 In Tight Battle

The Trojans edged St Joseph of DeWitt 66 to 63 to snap a skid. Joe Spencer scored late baskets and topped 24 rebounds while Hans Manning and Zink contributed solid scoring as Hook sealed the win. Frosh soph follow with a 69 46 victory led by Temple Groharing 22 points.

Family Dinner Honors Birthday of Edgar Turney

Pheasant Season Extended Through December 31

Illinois extends the pheasant and Hungarian partridge hunting season from December 17 to sundown December 31. Director William Lodge cites inclement weather delaying crop harvest and concludes many remaining cock pheasants may not survive winter, aligning with sound game management to utilize the surplus birds.

Thomson Receives GS Commendation At Council Dinner

Thomson was among only four towns in Green Hills Council surpassing quota in theGirl Scout drive. A special plaque was presented to Mrs Richard Miller at the November 20 dinner at Shimer College. The plaque is displayed in the Post Office lobby. Miller was elected to the Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts board of directors.

Thomson-St Josephs won 66-63 over DeWitt foes with a late fourth quarter rally. Pearl City-Lanark won 64-46 as Bruce Christiansen led Lanark with 10 points. Mount Carroll beat Oregon 67-66 in a tight finish. Polo defeated Mt Carroll 49-43. Chadwick beat Lyndon 72-61 with Lyndon taking the preliminary 70-50. Shannon-LeWin won 60-56 at LeWin. Aquin edged Shannon 75-70 led by Darryl Swalve with 23. Pearl City-Lanark also won 64-46. Stillman Valley topped Milledgeville 66-46 as Alan Deets scored 17 for the losers.
