Farm youth Harry McKee killed in farm accident near Ideal
Harry McKee a 23 year old farm youth living with his parents south of Ideal was instantly killed when the spreader he was driving ran over his head. Coroner J B Schreiter conducted an inquest and the jury returned a verdict of crushing head injury caused by the spreader. Dr J A Wright of Morrison said the skull was fractured and death appeared instantaneous. The accident occurred as McKee returned from the field to the barn after unloading a fertilizer spreader.

Manhattan firm low bidder for Savanna ordnance depot plant
Manhattan Construction Co of Muskogee Oklahoma submitted the lowest bid of 17 for an ammunition loading plant at Savanna ordnance depot. Their bid is 274,600 dollars, under review by the quartermaster general for award. Second bid 278,662 by Sjostrom and Dou of Rockford Illinois. The project forms part of a 1.5 million dollar depot building program. preparatory work totals 43,507.35 by Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne with rail lines by Warner Construction of Chicago and a deep well by W. Warner of Dubuque. Arthur F. Mathis of West Des Moines was awarded sanitary sewers and water distribution work. Construction includes magazines and igloo storage, with completion expected in fall 1940.

Permit to Construct Power Lines Granted by County Board

Youths Wanted Here Arrested In Pennsylvania
Lloyd Diffenderfer 19 and his brother Eugene 17 of Frankin county Pa were indicted last June on burglary charges and held in Hershey Pa. They were also indicted in Stephenson county for forgery and may be returned to claimants there. The pair had served 90 days in Carroll County jail after pleading guilty to larceny and then burglarized a Lanark farm and cashed seven checks in Freeport. They had been traced across several western states and were arrested in Hershey while returning home.

Rush Carroll of York township led the Carroll County Dairy Herd Improvement Association for November with 23 purebred Holsteins averaging 967 pounds of milk and 38.3 pounds of butterfat. John Derver of Mt. Carroll ranked second with 33 cows at 790 pounds of milk and 28.1 fat. Third was Stransdale Farm No. 1 with 65 cows at 782 pounds and 27.1 fat. W. G. Warnock’s five Guernseys from Mt. Carroll placed fourth at 603 pounds and 23.6 fat. Stransdale Farm No. 2, 18 grade Holsteins, averaged 714 pounds and 23.5 fat. High cows were from Stransdale Farm No. 1 and John Derer, producing 2310 and 1788 pounds respectively, with fat 87.8 and 73.8 pounds. Fifty-two cows in association herds produced over a total of al pounds of butter.
