Merritt D Bertholf died Tuesday following a stroke. Born Oct 10 1865 at Plain Grove Carroll County he lived in Savanna and worked 35 years for the Milwaukee railway rising from yardmaster to switch tender. Survived by widow Mary Nettleton and children Orl Vane Charles. funeral Friday at 2:15 from home and 2:00 from Presbyterian church Savanna with burial in Savanna cemetery.

A York man Rev. Henry Gilbert, longtime pastor of the York Baptist churches, died at his Freeport home on Thanksgiving Day after a life of service. Birth in 1845 in Utica New York, education at Wayland Academy and University of Chicago, he served at multiple churches including York and Thomson. His daughter Miss Hanes Gilbert recalls weekly reads of the Review. services were held with local clergy and bearers named in attendance.
