Fewer Market Hogs in 28 Says Illinois Ag Expert
E V Johnson of the University of Illinois College of Agriculture notes that the corn hog ratio suggests fewer hogs will be marketed in Chicago this winter 1928 1929 than last winter. A 10 percent below normal ratio points to about 8.1 percent fewer hogs next year, with higher prices possible. The December ratio will also influence sow retention for farrowing. bree sow sales continue through February or March. The ratio shows how many bushels of corn equal 100 pounds of pork, guiding farmers in decisions on hog production and margins.
