All-Out Holding Action Called By NFO for Midnight

The National Farmers Organization set an all-out holding action to begin at midnight August 31 1962 to seek stable farm product prices. More than 20 000 members met in Des Moines Iowa to approve voluntary action with no penalties for nonparticipants. Milk sales were not included due to perishability.

Funeral Rites Held Friday for Philip K Lang

Funeral services for Philip K Lang 72 native of Chadwick area who died August 22 were held at 2 p m Friday in Frank Funeral Home. The Rev Rodney Warstler officiated with Darla Schreiner organist. Burial was in Chadwick cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Brandenburg Fenton Pratt Wilbur Rodermel Gene Wolf Marvin Muller and Delmar Lang. He was born December 9 1889 in Fair Haven township son of George and unknown mother. He farmed with brother Clarence before moving to Chadwick. Death from heart attack. Survived by brother Clarence of Polo and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by parents and brothers George and Louis.

Drowned angler still missing after river search

James Whitney 44 of Hinckley disappeared while fishing along Route 80 north of the Savanna Sabula bridge on Saturday night. Authorities dragged a 30 foot deep Mississippi River stretch near the steep bank but found no body by Monday morning. his wife reported the disappearance.

Auto Hits Train Injuring Three Near Savanna

Three young Carroll county residents were injured when their car struck the side of a Burlington freight train crossing Ayres crossing on Route 80. Gary Handel of Chadwick the driver JoElla Spanogle of Mt. Carroll and Frances Frankenburger of Savanna were treated at Savanna City hospital for facial lacerations bruises and a dislocated hip. Handel said the warning signal flashed too late. The car was turned and halted along the track after impact as the train stopped.

Farm and Home Science Show at University of Illinois

The Farm and Home Science Show will be held at the University of Illinois College of Agriculture on Friday and Saturday September 7 and 8. Demonstrations and exhibits will be at eight centers including beef and dairy cattle farms and the agronomy south farm with highlights on corn tillage, harvesting machinery, precast concrete structures, an automatic beef feeder and a pneumatic feed system. Death of Mrs Anna Burns Tipton 83 in Freeport

Mrs Anna Burns Tipton aged 83 died at 4 a m Monday in St Francis Hospital Freeport after a fall at the Caroline Mar Home where she had resided. Born November 14 1879 in New York state she came to Mount Carroll at age 10 as an orphan and was later adopted by Mrs Caroline Mark. Surviving are two sons David B Tipton of Chicago and William R Tipton Jr of Mount Carroll and several nephews. Burial followed in Oak Hill cemetery with funeral at 2 p m Tuesday conducted by Pastor James M Green.

A total of 77 baby beef calves were sold Wednesday afternoon August 22 at the 4-H Roundup auction. The 29th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Rahn was celebrated Sunday with a Monday gathering at the Rahn home west of Chadwick. A family gift was given and refreshments served.
