Local Sportsman Bayard Cole Dominates Historic Trap Wins

Bayard Cole, raised on a farm near Thomson, built a legendary trap shooting career beginning with duck hunting on Sunfish Lake. He claimed top prizes at the Grand American Handicap in Indianapolis and Chicago, earned state team honors for Illinois, and consistently placed in money at Davenport and Rock Island meets. Now active at Cole & Robinson melon stand north of Thomson, he recounts shoots and still wins, with strong memories of near-misses and remarkable 133 out of 140 at Davenport.
