City elementary enrollment reaches 1,448 with 162 eighth grade promotions. rural schools total 972 with 129 eighth grade promotions. Total school property valued at 1,195,282 dollars. Elementary districts will receive about 7,000 dollars less from the state distributive fund next year, due to new claim rules based on actual average daily attendance rather than minimum attendance.
Hathaway hall the oldest dormitory on Frances Shimer campus is being redecorated this summer with new conservative furniture for the large parlor purchased by an anonymous donor and other alumnae funds toward interior modernization.
Secretary of State Edward J. Hughes announces a new law requiring Illinois residents who buy a motor vehicle in another state to pay a $25 investigation charge in addition to the 50 cent title certificate fee. An exception exists if the old vehicle was registered elsewhere 90 days prior or an out-of-state accident led to the purchase, with dealer and self affidavits justifying waiving the charge.

Milledgeville marks Community Day with a morning parade and afternoon to evening free entertainment across the town. State survey notes new industrial sand deposits in six Illinois counties.

Premium lists for the livestock divisions of the Carroll county 4-H Roundup at Lanark Friday Aug 25 were released this week. Judging begins at 10 15 a m with entries due by 10 o clock. Divisions include beef calf dairy swine and sheep with entry limits per member. Officials listed: W G Warnock dairy, R E B Schelling beef, R E Lamoreux sheep, and Coen of Thomson with M Guenzler and J Keeney Lanark for swine.
