Miss Ruth Erichton of Brockville wed Grosd Engle of Lima township on Sunday June 6 in the parsonage of a German Evangelical church in Bekin WL. Mrs Beightol of Brockville is the bride's mother and Engle is a son of Mr and Mrs Otte Engle of Linta town.
Savanna Brewers beat Morrison Ice Cooling 42 to 7 at Morrison fairgrounds. Brewers scored in the second, seventh, and ninth innings while Morrison produced two runs in the third. Ginie pitched well for Savanna, allowing eight hits and one base on balls. Morinos pitcher gave up eleven hits and eleven bases on balls with one strikeout.
Lanark's Fuhreman Cannery prepares for a four to five week season with new equipment installation to speed up canning. Workers have moved machinery to the main building this summer and expect operations to start Friday or Saturday, boosting local employment and output. Corn acreage nearby exceeds 700 acres, with ripe crops advancing due to hot weather. Delays may occur from threshing and limited harvest help.
Funeral services for John R Connell age 75 were conducted at the First M E church in Savanna with Rev. nostetter and Rev. Synwelt officiating. Burial followed in Savanna cemetery. He died at his Sterling home after a brief illness. He was born in Ireland in 1860 and lived in Hanover Fory Savanna Clinton and Sterling. Survived by wife Anna Shepard and three children Margaret Sherman and Cecil R. The infant son Kathleen died in infancy. An obituary note also reports the death of Anna Queckboerner 65 of Chadwick with funeral services held from the home and Black Oak Lutheran church and Chadwick cemetery.
Harry Shekelton a former Savanna resident died of injuries from an automobile crash near Marion. He was custodian of Milwaukee railroad yards in Atkins and was being driven by a brother in law visiting his home. His daughter Alice was critically injured. He was a son in law of George and Mrs Ashford of Savanna and survived by his wife and three children.
Judge Albert 1b Manus overruled a motion to quash the indictment against Roy Dennison of Savanna in Shomday's cession. Dennison faces trial on charges of receiving stolen property. Attorney Harry Ear of Dixon argued insufficient evidence to return an indictment. the court did not uphold the motion. Dennison was indicted in June by a grand jury.
Rudward Flickinger, secretary of the local corn hog control association, reports that groups three and four contract listings are at the Mt Carroll office. Contracts will be ready for signing August 13 and signers should visit August 15 16 and 17, with Saturday hours extended. Group three has 20 applications and group four 35, while group one shows 47 applications with 42 signed contracts and five declined. First payments on group one are expected by September 1, with most delayed payments now received and only three signers lacking final payments.
The weekly band concert in Mt. Carroll has moved to Wednesday to avoid clashing with the Old Settlers reunion in Lanark on Thursday. County stores will stay open Wednesday night instead of Thursday as usual, per band director Coleman Miles.
Lawrence Gradi, new county superintendent of schools, announced the annual teachers institute date moved to Sept 22 7s. 1k likely in Savanna. The change shifts from spring to allow teachers to finish the week before the Western Division meeting of the state teachers association in Rockford on Oct 24.
Last week results show Decertts 21 Mt Carrell 5 in a postponed Tuesday game. This Friday evening at 3:30 O'el Carrell County teams Milledeeville Chadwick Lanark Dagcotts Mt Carrell Thomson were all called off due to rain.
A leaking hot water heater sparked a blaze at the Floyd Alberts home in Mt Carroll on Saturday evening. The fire was extinguished by Mrs. Alberts and neighbors before the fire truck arrived. Also noted are league standings and a marriage license record involving Mt Carroll residents.
Committees finalize plans for Ideal Farmers' Club ninth annual picnic and livestock exhibit on Tuesday August 20 with free grounds near Ideal grove three quarters of a mile east. All invited for picnic at noon and members urged to attend Monday August 19 for Cina arrangements. Morning sports include softball at 10 a.m. and matches through 4-H and Farm Bureau teams. afternoon features speeches songs and a dance program with WOC radio entertainers and a village pageant. A band concert closes the day under Miss Beth Hower.
A milk truck driven by Robert Orth crashed through a guard rail and into the Hotel Glenview near the east entrance Friday around 5 p.m. The truck sustained major front-end damage and required effort to be moved back onto the road. no injuries were reported to Orth or others.
York township residents and others who use the Thomson Argo Fa road may see grading and new bridges this fall as the project is placed on the Federal Aid approval list. County Highway S. G. Campbell received a letter from district engineer F. Gocke stating bids for bridges and grading could begin soon and that the pavement program appears imminent.
Thirty colored CCC boys form the advance Mt. Carroll camp arrived in Carroll under Capt. A. W. Clark and Lieut. M. S. Smallhouse. They erected tents and dug water pipes to the William Isenhart farm site. Another group of 65 men is expected later this week, with more to follow. Captain Clark will command. Smallhouse remains for months. They discussed accepting a colored camp at a summer meeting. Real estate transfers listed include several property deeds in Savanna and area.
In Mr Carroll a milk truck loses steering gear and crashes into a hotel but no injuries are reported. Mr and Mrs Edward Hendricks of Savanna observe their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday. Carroll county corn bureau prepares contracts for signing this week. John R Council, former Say merchant, is buried at Savanna. Casinecry at Lanark to start canning sweet corn this week. Lanark to welcome Old Settlers at 62nd annual reunion on Thursday Aug 15. Big parade starts at 10 am. Route 17% gains federal approval.
Carroll county was allotted 182,813 of the July gas tax funds, part of Illinois total 863,170 for the month, per the state department of Gnance. In other news, Genevieve Rasmussen of Savanna, Wis, was granted a divorce from Wilton Rasmussen, Savanna, on cruelty grounds in circuit court.
The Mt Carroll Commercial Club plans a five day Homecoming on Aug 28 and 29 with professional acts from the vaudeville circuits, a new merry go round ferris wheel and whip, and a parade. Jim Poole may speak Saturday afteroon, and booster trips are replaced by publicity cars circulating nearby towns.
The will of Flavius J. Bradway of Elkhorn Grove township was filed for probate in county court on Monday. A hearing is scheduled for August 30.
The 62nd annual Old Settlers Reunion in Lanark on Thursday August 15 features a grand parade at 10 a.m. with entries from across the county and cash prizes for divisions. Led by parade marshal H G C Linskill, events include softball at the school diamond, a basket dinner at Lanark city park, and an address by Attorney Ralph M Eaton of Mt Carroll.
Farm Adviser M P Roske announced prize money for grand champion beef calves and other divisions at the annual 4-H Club Round-Up and Farm Bureau picnic to be held Aug 28 at Youk's field south of Lanark. Judging starts 9:30 am. participants urged to update record books.
