At the Guy Brown home a cat nesting in a tree birthed multiple kittens, one by one, as the family tracked the growing litter. The exact number remains uncertain, with more kittens appearing after the initial signs, until Guy finally pieced together the surprising brood.
A Monday desl records Fred Yates purchasing the A F Dittmar produce station from long-time operator Mr Dittmar who has run the business after buying it from Vern Mort. Dittmar may relocate to Milwaukee Wisconsin for a good position, with the family possibly moving there in the near future.
The Lambert reunion gathered at Old Mill Park in Savanna on Sunday with forty four attendees. Local members included Mr and Mrs Ed McGinty and son Clarence and Mr and Mrs John J Carroll and daughter Louis. The group shared a fine dinner and a pleasant program of visiting.
Bert Grim of the Petty and Richter garage suffered a severe hand injury when a quarter inch steel splinter buried itself to the bone. Surgeons Mershon and Petty removed the splinter and the pain forced a temporary stop to his work. From Friday's Mirror-Democrat.
John Saur, a resident on the B. L. Peck farm, acquires the Clarence Houghton farm west of town, previously occupied by Ed Atherton. Possession transfers on March 1, with price terms not disclosed. Classified ads in the Review reference the sale.
Effective September Iun, 1927, the Thomson Review will cost $2.00 per year due to higher printing costs. Subscriptions may be prepaid at the old rate any time before September 1, 1927. Mr and Mrs Earl Orcutt visited the Orcutt home today. Earl is on two weeks vacation touring Illinois and Indiana.
The Thomson Band thanks a Savanna youth for accordion tunes and invites others to offer services for Saturday night concerts. Reports of a gathering at Waterworks Park include a Morrison ladies’ picnic and 500 display. Local visits include Dr Kerschner in Clinton and Miss Mildred Hollard joining Prophestown employment.
Savanna gears up for its annual Labor Day celebration with Attorney General Garlstrom set as the featured speaker. Talks continue about inviting Mayor Thompson of Chicago, though securing him may be difficult amid busy schedules. Attendees can anticipate a well hosted, enjoyable day.
Rev and Mrs E M Williams attend camp meeting in Lena Alabama and visit home Friday. Ree Casselberry of Hickory Grove returns from visiting John Carroll and Edward McGinty. Mayor and Mrs Leslie Fuller host over the weekend with Mrs Ferrell and the Ferrell family from Alpha, plus two children.
Chas T Heusinkveld of St Louis and his brother visited Moline and the Thomas Stage home on Sunday. Mrs Will Sheridan and sons Donald and Joseph of Fulton stayed with Miss Maxine Hull in Burlington. The Wacker dance Friday drew a fair crowd with Savanna orchestra. Mrs Mike Tucker and Mrs Henry Kaine attended a picnic at Morison Water Works Park. Charles Hoag of Clinton and his wife welcomed a girl born last week at Jane Lamb hospital. Auto license 1 058 618 awaits owner at Review office. Master Donald Rhode of Milwaukee visiting grandfather Frank Anderson. he may become a printer. Township treasurer notes tax item corrected to Bond Interest. Mrs Frank Switzer visited her parents Mr and Mrs Herman Francke. Adam Livingston left for Mabton Washington via Denver to visit brother Frank. Sylvia Lewis to Minneapolis to visit sister Mrs Joe Stirling, away ~2 weeks. No services Sunday at Argo or Thomson ME churches due to Reverend Williams attending Lena camp meetings. Al Stores painting George Bowers farm. white house and red barns. Charles Young of Central States Engineering in Muscatine Iowa aided surveying for Savannah and York Drainage District.
Mrs Bayard Lewis and children with Mrs Alice Lewis drove to Walnut Illinois on Sunday and visited the Lew and Irve Lewis homes. Miss Ramona Lewis stayed longer. Mr and Mrs John Hay enjoyed a Sunday visit from Mr and Mrs Harry Seiple and children of Mt Carroll.
On Sunday August 14 at 11:00 AM the Christian Church hosts an Automobile Day with fifty or more cars on display on church grounds. Rev Schaich will deliver a special sermon and attendees are urged to bring family and neighbors, even those without autos. Cars should be fueled by Saturday night. event aims to draw a large gathered crowd.
Governor Small signs a law requiring eighth graders in districts with two or three year high schools to attend those schools in their home district if possible. Pupils from non high school districts may still attend four year high schools with tuition paid from non high school funds, but now must pay their own tuition if choosing a four year option. Critics say the plan may benefit districts more than pupils, urging careful governance for student interests.
Last Wednesday the first barge line steamer, the S. Thorpe, passed this point on its maiden trip from Dubuque to St Louis. Mayor Beverly Dunn inaugurates the upper Mississippi barge line project as that steamer clears Clinton at about 3:00 AM. Major Dunn, in Albany, and Lieutenant Mielenz were rowed to the launch and later picked up below in the mud stream. Cin tians and locals from Davenport joined the event aboard Thorpe. Master of the craft is Percy Swain, a Mississippi veteran, home in Stillwater. Pilot team includes William Mills of St Louis and Roy Wethern of Fountain City, Wisconsin. Chief engineer is R. P. Marshall of Seattle with Clinton Critchfield as assistant. O. E. Olson of St Louis is first mate and Merrill Sevarson of Minneapolis the radio operator. More tow boats will be launched soon. Captain Geo Reed will guide the C. C. Webber south later this month.

York Co-Operative Theatre manager Leslie Puller called a members meeting at Thomson State Bank. Attendees included Leslie Ry and G A Smith among others. absent were Chas Jenkins James J Sheridan and K B Carpenter. The group reported a two year deficit of about 272 dollars due to machine rebuilding and a 90 dollar year deficit blamed on bad weather. Members approved continuing weekly Saturday shows in winter if attendance warrants, with existing contracts honored and options to discontinue. Also discussed were Melon Day, a possible Business Men's Club booster, and school bus driver applications next Wednesday. Kazel Nason of Fulton visited Thomson with plumbing work.
