McGinty, who once ran the Sirhamson meat market, has purchased the Thomson Meat Market and took possession last week. The former owner, Vern Mort, may remain in the village and thanks patrons as Mrs. McGinty pledges to maintain the high quality and standards of the shop.
The Modern Woodmen of America are sponsoring a free show at the Thomson Opera House this Saturday evening. Pictures both slide and moving will be shown in the lodge Inter. No shows at 7:15 and 7:45. No admission charged and the public is cordially invited.
Miss Lela Carpenter left last week on a several weeks trip through eastern states visiting Jagara Falls Buffalo New York and other eastern points before returning home to teach in Washington during the next school term. Readers await her account of the journey and a possible letter in the future.
The Village Board met in regular session with ER K Fuller presiding. Members Carpenter Sheridan Schade and Smith attended. French was absent. Bills totaling 468.09 were read and referred to Finance. a tax levy ordinance was accepted by four yeas. The board authorized Alfred St Or es to paint village hall and related buildings. Meeting adjourned.
The annual financial statement for Township No 23 Range 3 and 4 Carroll County Illinois covers June 30 1926 to June 30 1927. It lists receipts including a township fund balance of 27 17 from beginning and 3079 10 from the county superintendent plus 302 75 interest and other items. Expenditures include teachers salaries pension fund repairs books and supplies and utilities. The closing township fund on hand is 2409 02 with total expenditures and distributions itemized and the statement sworn by Mary W Cone treasurer before Notary E B Carpenter on July 23 1927. It notes social notes of visits from Mr and Mrs Will Frank of Low ie and Miss Beth Houghton visiting Thomson and Chadwick and Town.
In country notes our reporter tracks farm relocations for next season. John J. Carroll quits farming, vacates the Mrs. M. F. Peck place. Hiram Green rents Peck farm. Joe Dykstra moves to Norm French farm. John Bark relocates from Fulton area. John Gertz moves to Dave Geerts’s old farm. various residents plan new farms and addresses including Ottens, Prins, and Nordhoff.
The town plans a larger melon day in late August or early September aiming to attract about 5000 attendees. Last year’s event drew modest crowds but boosted the town’s profile, with improvements planned from insights gained this year. Mortimer Hawk preached Sunday at the Christian Church, drawing many from Lyons and Fulton.
Henry Johnson begins repainting his porch with a fresh white coat. Henry Kasnt has not yet decided how extensive his painting project will be, with the sun and weather pattern likely to influence his coverage.
Two Argo young men organize a dance at Wacker hall this Friday night with the Merry Makers of Savanna providing music. Invitations go to everyone with each guest allowed, and additional dances are planned for the evening to ensure a lively event.
Three remaining members of Company B Minnesota Infantry from Bull Run held a final gathering in Stillwater. The 34 chairs faced 3 fill-ins: Peter Hall 87 Atwater Minnesota John E Goff 83 St Paul and Charles Lockwood 82 Chamberlain South Dakota.
Ab Hook hosted a social Saturday night celebrating a wedding on Thursday with a large crowd. The hosts offered cigars, ice cream, and candy as favors, and rumors spread that Clans Prins ate much of the ice cream, leaving little for the bride and groom.
Robert Groharing begins on his new house with basement dirt removal this week and substantial supplies on hand as framing nears. Kyle Melendy has interior work underway with painting completed, and both are expected to be profiled in next week's issue.
Weekend vetter Pau Hawk was reportedly at the residence in Lrome connected to a rent arrangement. Details remain unclear as local sources note the activity occurred over the weekend without official statements.
