Complete paving completed on new highway No 64 route
The paving of a long stretch between Sycamore and Meridan completes the last gap in highway 64. A new route from this vicinity will soon be usable extending from Chicago to Savanna and through Iowa to Cedar Rapids. Concrete pouring on the final gap finished last Thursday. The route, designed to ease Lincoln highway congestion, is expected to handle a large traffic volume. Hanover Residents Injured in Route 38 Crash Friday
Four Hanover residents were badly injured and five others from Hanover escaped injury when a Dodge driven by Anton Hovar and a Ford driven by Lee Townsend sideswiped on Route 80, two and a half miles north of Savanna at 9 PM Friday. The Ford rolled twice, then rested upright on the east shoulder. the Dodge halted after striking the embankment. Mrs Townsend suffered arm lacerations and head and body bruises, Lois Straitt had head injuries and scratches, Harold Reitz bore a deep cut to the bow, and Townsend also had head and body injuries.

A one story three room frame dwelling on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Niles, Marcus six miles north of Savanna, and near Route 80, was destroyed by a Wednesday morning fire caused by a gasoline stove explosion. Loss estimated over 1,000 dollars, insured. Only bedding from one bed saved. Neighbors said the fire could not be checked. no alarm to Savaroie fire department. Mrs and Mrs Miles, with their son Floyd and family, will make their home nearby.

Savanna Plans New Theatres To Replace Fire Damaged Hall
Savanna to build two new theatres this fall replacing the Orpheum lost to fire last February. The site will host a 300 seat modern house with air conditioning and state of the art projection. The Law Estate will own and lease to Chicago men Charles H. Miller and Fred B. Swanson who operate the Web theatre. Construction due to start within two weeks after ruins are cleared with completion expected this fall.
