Mrs. George Mattie came back Tuesday from a three week visit with her son and daughter in law in Anchorage Alaska. She helped in catching 21 salmon with red salmon weighing about 10 to 11 pounds on average.
Harlan Hoff and Rita Geddes wed in Ada Minnesota in a two bride ceremony. Margaret Geddes and Peter Rasmussen also married, with Rev E G Larson officiating. Guests included relatives from Thomson Illinois Stephen Minnesota and Fargo North Dakota. The couple plan to live in Champaign Illinois after studying at the University of Illinois.
Mr and Mrs Earl Diephuis announce the engagement of daughter Linda Sue to Gary Lee Houzenga son of Mr and Mrs James Houzenga Miss Diephuis a 1966 York Community high school graduate works for Nielsen Coupon of Clinton Iowa The groom is a 1965 York Community high school graduate and farms with his father No wedding date has been set.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Holland were surprised Saturday night at the Emil Brach home for their 25th wedding anniversary. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Emil Brach and others. refreshments were served and Yahtzee was played as gifts were presented.
Mrs Amelia Sack spent the weekend with her daughter. Mr and Mrs Donald McBride and family hosted visiting relatives. LeRoy Valett of Sioux City stopped en route home from Minnesota. The Leopold and Sack families visited Henry Picklum in Riverview. Dora Wiebenga joined her son Harvey Fossett family in Chadwick. Gordon Brown and family of Fulton called on Maude Brown. Rinkie Lutinga of Fulton returned home after an extended visit with her daughter. John and Jake Dykstra and Ronald enjoyed a trip with Mrs Dykstra to the Madison Zoo.

Mrs. James Eaton and her husband of Mt. Carroll welcomed Au dra Lynn Eaton an 8 lb 5 oz daughter born July 24 at Savannah city hospital. The baby’s mother Vivian Friederich is the former daughter of Paul and Vivian Friederich RR 2 Savannah. Duane Ottens and his wife of Fulton welcomed a son born Tuesday at Morrison Community hospital with maternal grandparents Edward and Clinton area residents.
Miss Beth Williams was honored Friday evening July 29 at a miscellaneous bridal shower hosted in Mrs. Eugene Murray and Mrs. Marion Wheeler home. Prizes were awarded for hints and a "This Is Your Life Beth" feature entertained thirty attendees. Refreshments included salad crackers nut bread mints nuts coffee and punch.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Williams announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Beth to Gerald Bower The wedding is planned for August 14 at 2 00 pm at Thomson Methodist Church Invitations are extended to friends and relatives.
Mr and Mrs John Buikema and Phyllis visited his brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Ren ze Buikema of Morrison. Mr and Mrs Marvin Hole singer and family and Mr and Mrs Dale Holesinger were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Henry Van Zuiden in Morrison.
Sick Dick Sloan, son of Mr and Mrs John Sloan, is convalescing at home after a brief illness of strep throat. Mrs Gordon Buikema of Morrison returned from Moline Public Hospital where she was a medical patient and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Bolhous. Mrs James Vian has been dismissed from Savanna hospital where she had been a patient last week. Lauri Geerts daughter of Mr and Mrs Larry Geerts was dismissed Monday from Savanna hospital. Mrs Dorothy Frosch mother of Cecil Frosch is a medical patient at Savanna city hospital admitted Friday. Clarence Huggins of Los Angeles formerly Thomson is seriously ill in a hospital there. Robert Holland is a medical patient at Jane Lamb hospital in Clinton.

Pfc Daniel Remrey son of Mrs Nellie Remrey has been sent into active duty in Viet Nam after basic training at Fort Knox and Fort Sill. He spent thirteen months in Korea and will be stationed at Fort Carson before Vietnam. Birthday lunch honors Luanne Meakins with attendees from Clinton and Thomson. Staff Sergeant Roger Eslinger and James Busby on leave from Kentucky visit Thomson. Des Moines wedding attended by Richard Hook and others.
The Village Board met in regular session August 1 with President Shutters presiding. Five trustees voted yes on the annual tax levy ordinance No. 115 totaling 17,180.00, after bills and the treasurer's report were approved. Attorney Smith reported on sewer bonds while engineer Hanson noted rapid sewer construction progress. An adjournment to August 15 at 7:30 pm was approved.
Andrew J. Hook, longtime East Side schools administrator, was named superintendent of Aurora District 131. He succeeds Dr Norman S. Green who resigned May 31 to lead Proviso High School District. Hook's salary is $20,000 annually.
Gordon Hansen County Supt of Schools sets August 16 for a unit district vote for Thomson schools. Outside Thomson village voters cast ballots at Curley's Melon Stand on highway 84. inside village polls are at the Town Hall. polling opens at noon and closes at 7 pm DST.
A four generations picnic took place July 14 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bowders. The gathering featured family members from Milledgeville Chicago Phoenix and Clinton as well as relatives visiting Mrs Vera Bennett and Mrs Ellan Brand.
Lisa Ann infant daughter of Mr and Mrs James Skimhorn was baptized Sunday July 24 at York Community Church with Rev T S Cleworth officiating.
