Cub Scout Pack 52 hosts a Friday evening carnival in the Old School Gym with barbecued sandwiches pie coffee popcorn and a pop stand. Games include fish pond darts bean bag toss and bingo with prizes as boys and den mothers welcome guests and seek support.
Twenty members of the Varsity band and their director Earle Mailand traveled to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb to hear the annual Rhythm Rendezvous Jazz Concert featuring big band selections from Siebert Basie and Riddle. A notice in Carroll County Illinois sets a hearing for the Annual Financial Report of the Savan na and York Drainage District on May 12 1967 at 10 a.m. in the Circuit Court.
The Cedarettes 4-H club opened with the president's call to order. Committee reports followed including a swimming party plan with YMCA access issues. A Job Corps offer was noted, recreation and refreshments were served, and members demonstrated table manners and place settings.
Mr and Mrs Myles Haas received a telephone call Tuesday evening from their son Jim Haas stationed at Lackland Air Force Base San Antonio Texas. Jim says he is enjoying his training at this time.
Mr and Mrs Myles Haas hosted a birthday dinner Wednesday evening at their home for Mrs Nona Hartzell of San Francisco, honoring her birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Frank Flack, Mr and Mrs Raymond Flack and family, and Miss Ellen Irwin, all of Hanover.
The 500 Club meets today with Mrs. Edna Hagg. Cubs Carnival starts Friday at 7 30 in the Old School Gym. Mr and Mrs Virgil Hudson of Peoria visited Mrs Maude Brown recently.
Mrs. Lawrence Weatherwax, Red Cross fund chair, reports Thomson exceeded its March drive goal by collecting 306.30 dollars against a 245.00 quota. She thanks contributors and lists solicitors including Katherine Huizenga, Clara Andring, Edna Hagg, Bernice Dimmick, Ida Hebeler, Mildred Brach, Mary Root, Myra Slovn, Thelma Dykstra, Dorothy Carroll, Jo Bissens, Edna Brown, Irene St. Ores, Dorothy Vian, Luvella Diehl, Eleanor Plumley, Beth Holland, and Glendora Schade.
Earle Mailand has been elected to lead the Lions Club for 1967 68 with Rob Bristol as 1st vice president Bill Gengenbach as 2nd vice president Paul Daniels as 3rd vice president Harry Dittmar as secretary treasurer John Krahn as lion tamer and Max Meakins as tail twister. Directors are W Lloyd Olds Herman Hagg Merle Atherton and John Atherton. Outgoing president Herman Hagg. New officers assume office in July. The club recently donated 50 to the Thomson Fire Department to buy a rescuscitator for the ambulance.
Eight members of the Checkmates square dancers traveled to LaCrosse Wisconsin for the Spring Fling jamboree. The group performed Friday evening and Saturday morning under instructor Mrs Fischer. They stayed with Cecil Frosch's family and shared meals on Saturday. Participants included Susan Knuth Nancy Haas Luanne Frosch Peggy Kaufman Richard Baker Ward Dittmar Jon Cate and Dick Sloan.
Mrs. Rinkie Latinga, who suffered a slight stroke a week ago Sunday, is recovering at her daughter Mrs. John Buikema's home after a stay at Jane Lamb Hospital from April 16 to April 18. Also, Mrs. Harmon Stakemiller of Mount Carroll is in Savanna Hospital with a broken leg, Miss Mae Eustes of Fulton was taken to Mercy Hospital Clinton, and Virgil MacDonald will enter Jane Lamb Hospital on Sunday for surgery.

Morris and family join the first annual Rock River Radio Club Hamfest at the Lee County 4-H Center near Amboy with many amateur operators present. Ralph Hanover of Thomson also attends and Morris is named net control for one night weekly after discussing message handling.
Sunday and Saturday visits fill the week as families like the Eslingers Cates Wiebenas and Wiebengas meet with neighbors in Thomson. Visitors include Gladys Cate Arnold Bauer and Hamm families along with multiple local households in shared social calls.
A Standard First Aid Course completed at the Thomson School offers 12 hours of instruction. Daune Stevens serves as County First Aid Chairman and instructor. Certificates valid for three years issued to area residents listed.
Mrs. Bernice Dimmick reports that her son John Dimmick, an officer, attended a meeting of the American Federation of Scientists in Chicago last week. Salem, N. C. was hit by a four inch snow storm noted by Mrs. Dimmick during a Sunday call. Rabies inoculations for Riverview dogs will be offered at the Dick Miller home on Saturday April 29 starting at 1 PM for area residents.
Daily news item outlines services at York Community Church with 9 30 am church school 10 30 am morning worship and a series on great hymns featuring Fanny J Crosby. Other churches listed include York Baptist Spring Valley Reform Church Catholic Immaculate Conception and Ideal Community Bible Church with their respective service times and classes.
Mrs Flossie Adolph of Chadwick visited Mr and Mrs Malvin Brocious on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Bud McWorthy spent Monday in Clinton with her sister and brother in law Ray Foleys. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stoddard of Salina California welcomed a baby boy weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces on April 10. His mother Anita Johnson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evert Johnson of Argo.
Thomson Community Unit District pupils won two first place ratings seven seconds and one third in the Illinois Elementary School Arts Contest held April 22 in El Paso. First place in serious poetry went to Nancy Anne Bruckner and Olivia Kness.
The Woman's Club of Thom son will hold its annual May banquet and guest night on May 4 at 7 p.m. at Marion Smiths Tearoom in Mount Carroll. District president Mrs. Gladys Myers will be a guest. Reservations to be made with Mrs. Burnie Voss, Mrs. Eugene Murray, or Mrs. Robert ae by May 1. Members meet at the school at 6:30 and may bring a guest. Mrs. Ernest Smith will present a book review.
OC BOWLER from Costa Mesa reports Bill Baker son-in-law of Dora Wiebenga and former Thomson resident starred in the Coast Men's Handicap. He blasted a 289 score after 10 consecutive 10-pins, missing a possible perfect game by one pin. Also notes birthdays for Mr. Manning and Mrs. Senneff and guests.
Jennefer Ann Wiebenga enjoyed her first birthday with cake and ice cream Sunday night. Her parents are Mr and Mrs Harlan Wiebenga.
Mrs. Thelma Abbott, a French and junior high language arts teacher in Thomson schools, will have an article appear in the July issue of Home Garden. The title was "A Case for Violas," but may be published under a different name. Abbott is an avid gardener and teacher.
The third series of DTP immunization shots will be given Wednesday morning May 3 starting at 9 o clock at Thomson grade school. The Thomson PTA sponsors the program and booster shots will be available if needed.
Ben Stage celebrated his 84th birthday with a family visit and a birthday dinner. Relatives from Morrison Sterling Rock Island attended including Ken Kemmer Steve Kemmer Robert Stage and Richard Stage. Pvt Gerald B Senneff visited from DeKalb and heads to Fort Benning soon.
