Perry Melton edged incumbent Orville L. Gablin by five votes to become village president. Melton 84 Gablin 79. Arlene Korbar won village clerk with 123 votes. incumbent trustees Gilpin Stagg and Burton Simpson re elected. A new trustee, David Young, led with 115 votes. other candidates listed. Thomson Students Earn Multiple Superior Ratings in District Music Contest
Thomson schools music department entered several numbers in the District music contest at Rochelle last Saturday. Evelyn Wilt earned two superior ratings for piano solo and baritone horn solo and is eligible for the state contest. Ronnie Mitchell, Gayle Durward, and the clarinet trio earned excellent ratings. The saxophone quartet could not perform due to an injury to Jimmy Haas who required four stitches after a cut lip. Harold Hockman and two chaperones accompanied the group.

Services Held Tuesday For Mrs Peter Sikkema
Funeral services for Mrs. Peter J. Sikkema 62 of Fulton were held Tuesday at the First Christian Reformed church Fulton with Rev. John L Meppelink officiating. Burial followed in Fulton cemetery. She died Saturday night at Jane Lamb hospital Clinton after a three day admission. She was born March 17 1909 in Whiteside County Illinois and married Peter J. Sikkema in Fulton October 22 1935. She was active in church Sunday school catechism and church music and leaves a husband two children Vernon D Sikkema Jane Kay and Jeanine John Katie four grandchildren and several siblings and step relations.
