Illinois tree planting of over 3.5 million trees as part of a major reforestation program reaches wide scope. State Forester Anton J Tomasek notes a large daily planting effort. Highway safety education across 644 high schools and 3000 elementary schools correlated with a sharp fall in 1938 youth driver fatalities. Deaths involving drivers under 17 fell 40 percent from 1937. ages 18 to 24 dropped 32 percent.
