The Gay Henry Horner grand prize trophy awaits top winners along with 300 gold pins and medals and 30 gold cups for others. District and sectional winners earn banners and certificates.
John Derrer's 33 purebred Holsteins led March in Carrell County Dairy Herd Improvement with 1254 pounds of milk and 42.2 pounds of fat. His high cow produced 1893 pounds of milk and 70 pounds of fat as 76 cows in the association herds exceeded 40 pounds of butterfat.

Captain Wildey Wil, a Civil War veteran from Carroll County, marks his 100th birthday next Tuesday. Born April 18, 1839, in Buffalo, he moved to Chicago in 1835 and later settled in Mt Carroll where he ran a grocery store until retiring in 1925 due to health. He married Emily Vale in 1867 and has long been active in Masonry across northern Illinois.
