Governor Dwight H. Green opened a statewide fire prevention conference in Springfield with municipal officials from across Timot. He cited 606 persons burned in flames in Illinois last year and over 18 million dollars in downstate property losses. The push targets careless smoking, unsafe electrical work, litter ignitions, gasoline use, and defective heating equipment as top fire causes.
