The Saturday night presentation by Y. CBS and fare attracted a good sized audience. The operetta featured well prepared student performers and the entire cast earned praise for the accomplished manner in which the work was presented to the audience.
Ruby Scim and Earl Green wed Saturday in Savanna with ceremony by Reverend Barclay. The couple, long associated with York town farming, were joined at the Federated Church and celebrated by friends with a traditional charivari. Ruby recently resided with Mrs Annie Sheridan while Earl has worked in Milwaukee.
Primary election day scheduled for Tuesday April 12 observed as voting day with turnout expectations and official notices guiding polling locations and hours across districts. Local officials urged residents to verify precincts and bring valid identification where required.
At the town meeting held Tuesday in April at the village hall the auditors’ recommendations from the March 29 meeting were approved by the voters. The Board of Auditors consists of Supervisor J. J. Sheridan Town Clerk Joe Wilt and Justices of the Peace B. Br. Lewis and Carl Daehler. No sexton was appointed. cemetery trustees will set grave digging and upkeep rates. Henry Parsons named cemetery trustee to replace deceased John M. Carroll for a three year term. Other trustees listed are KR. J. Benmets and Rush W. Carroll. Leonard Heite of Waukegan Ill visited Thomson Saturday and brought along Phillip Switzer for a weekend in Maquoketa Iowa with Heite’s parents.
Work on route 80 advances with grading south of town near Kausens and the Milwaukee cut off. The paving contractor plans to start at Thomson's Main Street and progress 17 miles toward Albany, with culverts near the Masonic Hall and south of the Clint Pratt farm ready for pouring.
The Church Night program on April 1 was well attended and enjoyed by all. Next one will come about the first or second week in March. Harry Gaar will appoint committees. Bible school attendance dropped last Sunday but we will return to our old place near the hundred mark. The minister delivered final sermons on Prayer That Works and The church as Described in the New Testament. Norman French presented a new CB program on Sunday afternoon with sixteen passengers aboard. Dickey Stage has another program planned for next Sunday led by Thomas Richard. Mr Ed gard Bringham, revitalist, is invited for a revival on April 63 or 1 Win the church, with a possible free offering and open date.
The Savanna City Hall hosts a second in a series of checker games featuring Joe and Chas Wilt and others. A meeting of the Parent-Teacher group is planned with sessions led by representatives from the Chicago organization. Election safety work and a village election are noted with Bush W. Carroll retiring and others continuing their terms at York Community High School.
Arrangements for a parent teachers night at the Consolidated Grade School are under way with a possible charity game against county lads. The school will hold its election Thursday at the school house. Retiring directors are Charles Wilt and Tom Kustus, with possible reappointment of both. Directors carrying over include A. E. Sheridan W. A. Adams and Harry Gaar. W. A. Adams is president and A. E. Sheridan clerk.
March 1932 library activity lists 479 books checked out plus 46 magazines read and 4 fines collected. Several local school boards report retiring directors and new officers, with Center, Sandridge, Bristol, Parkhill, Vinegar Hill, Ideal, and Argolfa districts naming presidents and clerks. The April Parent Teachers meeting at YCHS gym features a program of songs, piano solos, readings, and a city vs country life debate by Sandridge students. Adelene Gaar returns to Elizabeth grade school after illness.
Harley Booth, former band member in Thomson, now at Jane Lamb hospital with pneumonia, has improved enough to be removed to his Clinton home. John and Gerald Gear, children of Mrs Helen Gear, are quarantined for scarlet fever. Mrs Crrenn Dunskee is confined to bed with nursing care. Mrs George Bower recovering from pneumonia at Jane Lamb hospital. Special nurse in charge dismissed. Mrs Sarah Grobaring confined with illness. Robison again treated for asthma. Jones ill with diease this winter. Hacet Kenyon suffers with a severe throat.
Janet Carpenter celebrated her 8th birthday with a home party hosted by Mr and Mrs John Carpenter on Saturday. Guests included Jeanette Williams Harold Williams Lois Martindale and many others who enjoyed games and brick ice cream wafers and well wishes for future celebrations.
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Steele observed their 40th wedding anniversary Friday in Thomson after spending the day at Mt Carroll and with Mrs Catherine Stober. The couple, who began their life together in Mt Carroll, later resided in Fulton and Sandridge before moving to Thomson last spring.
Saturday is election day in York township schools as voters name new directors to the school boards across high, grade, and country levels. The event affects all districts and is described as a routine annual selection by local voters and officials.
Mr and Mrs C2 HL Jenkins returned home Monday evening from Savannah Missouri where they visited Dr Nichols Sanitarium for consultation. Doctors Stern Bree and Nichola reported Mrs Jenkins not yet healing but relieved. Readers will be glad to hear the good news.
Nek McGinty earned three bronze medals and an eight dollar cash reward during National Safety Week activities. Guy Brown will pilot the York township tractor, taking on upkeep duties as the new road maintenance leader under Commissioner John Ashpole. The program involved trade schools nationwide and the South Dakota division highlighted local efforts.
First honors in beautifying the Thomson area home go to Mrs Delia Melendy for la nt side painting. White is the chosen color. The work is by her brother Wyman Kent of Clinton and a helper.
John Ashpole, a former York farmer, was named highway commissioner after securing 292 votes, 117 more than incumbent Sam Grim who had 175. The race saw 618 votes cast with seven voided, amid strong turnout and a crowded field including Brenneman and Turkey.
A damaged OCR style livestock tally lists hogs at 6 Henry St and other holdings. Entries include cows bulls steers and a variety of owner names such as Sebe Dykitra Amirew Slook and Carl Peterson with counts ranging from 1 to 55, indicating a mixed farm inventory.
The Village Board met in regular session with all trustees present. Bills totaling 209.87 were approved for payment after committee review. The treasurer reported 1696.73 balance. a water analysis request and sidewalk bicycle nuisance issues were discussed. election officials were appointed for the April 19 election. The board adjourned after a vote of thanks to Carrell Mutual Fire Insurance Co for a 25 donation.
Sam Grim, retiring road commissioner of York township, expresses gratitude to voters and residents for 25 years of support and cooperation. He notes improvements in gravel roads, changes over the years, and satisfaction with the voters' Tuesday decision. He thanks all for past favors and cordial relations and signs off sincerely.
Angel Food Cake recipe from Mrs Alberta Wilt describes using cake flour eye whites from 10 eggs with salt, gradually adding cream tartar and vanilla, then folding in fine sugar and flour. Sift flour five times, whip whites to stiff froth, fold gently, bake in a moderate oven about one hour.
A break in attempt damaged the back window of the Brockill store adjoining the Geisinger property. A box car at the local Burning on station was broken into and merchandise stolen. Clinton is checking the car's contents to assess loss. Also notes social visits and a wedding anniversary event at Gardenplain.
