John W. Fellows of Savanna, a radio instructor at Avon Park Florida, was among 11 Illinois soldiers awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for exceptional aerial performances in the Tunisian campaign after completing 50 combat missions in North Africa. He previously earned the Air Medal with 11 oak leaf clusters and the Good Conduct Medal. Fellows enlisted October 6 1941 and was hospitalized on return to the U.S. from overseas after 17 months abroad.

U S agents charged Savanna tavern owner Thomas H Runyan with failure to pay a special tax as a wholesale liquor dealer. Runyan bound over to the federal grand jury in Freeport after waiving preliminary hearing and posting 1000 bond. Mrs. Herman Klemm Rites Held in Savanna
Mrs. Herman Klemm aged 83 died Friday night at her daughter’s home in Savanna after more than two years of illness. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Savanna with Rev. Gerhard Fisher officiating, burial in Savanna cemetery. She was born in Germany November 16, 1860 and immigrated with her husband Herman Klemm to the United States over 50 years ago, later living on a farm north of Mt. Carroll. Surviving are four daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
