Prompt ICC action promised on South's rate petition
Atlanta Sept 28 Promised prompt action by the Interstate Commerce Commission on the south’s rate petition was announced by Jud P Wilhoit chairman of the Georgia Public Service Commission. He said the ICC acknowledged receipt of petitions and would act quickly on the federal investigation of alleged discrimination in southern freight rates. He noted requests from Helena Arkansas Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and a Fort Worth Texas shipping group seeking copies to aid the southern rate fight. He added that every southern state except Kentucky filed separate petitions and about 92 shipping groups also petitioned. The southern boards say southern freight rates on the same class of traffic run 18 to 40 percent higher than elsewhere.
