City Court Convenes for September Term and Convicts Two

The City Court opened its regular September term with Judge Hammond presiding. The criminal docket was heard with Henry Carter fined 99 dollars plus costs or nine months for cruelty to animals, and George Harrell jailed for twelve months for pistol theft. The court adjourned at 12 30 to resume Tuesday at 8 30 for one remaining case, then civil matters.

Sampson Returns From Greece After Three Months Abroad

Mr Sampson and his son Sta mat Jr returned last night from a three months trip to Greece to visit his mother. He reports a difficult voyage but wishes to become a citizen of Greece again. He traveled under risk, using American money to secure his escape as authorities opposed his departure. He notes Greeks admire the American dollar and many prisoners of war wish to stay in Greece. Greek pay is two cents daily for soldiers, five cents for Turkish prisoners, with kindness shown to captives.
