State begins grading and paving near Whigham in grading project
Cairo reports final preparations to begin constriction on grading and pay for about three and a half miles of State Route 179 in and north of Whigham. The county won the contract to lay curb and gutter and concrete sidewalks in Whigham as a State Highway crew works on Route 79 between Cairo and Whigham.

He recently earned a D D from Illinois College of Optometry and Georgia licensure after two degrees at the University of Georgia. Fulton Registrants Comprise More Than Eighteighths Of Georgia Men
Fulton county accounts for more than an eighth of Georgia's potential fighting men as draft signups roll in. In three days about 66 000 youths registered with 8 500 from Fulton. Draft eligibles who don’t volunteer face induction by June
Reading, Sept. 2 AP secretary of the Army Kenneth C. Royall said at a Rotary meeting during Reading’s Bicentennial that any non-volunteering draft-eligible man would likely be inducted by June 30. He noted voluntary enlistees won’t greatly alter the chance of selection and that the services must reach about 1,000,000 more recruits in 10 months to reach 1,848,000 by June 30, 1949.
