The recent rains have greatly aided cotton, sugar, cane and other crops in Thomas County. Late cotton looks improved and fields opened earlier show ready for another picking. Rain has arrived just when needed and lasted long enough to boost the unusually fine crops this year.
Coolidge Virginia August 23 The recent rains have aided Browng fall crops and the cotton crop. Farmers express cheer from the improved weather and hopeful prices, though yields may be less than prior promise.
Senator Bacon, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, after more than four days with Secretary of State Bryan, said Mexico’s situation seemed to be marking time. He noted no word from Mexico City and clarified that any banker loan stance via Lind and Gamboa was not a government loan guarantee. He added Americans who choose to stay in Mexico will be protected in every possible way.
Atlanta reports Leo Frank will remain silent and not issue a statement regarding his arraignment. His lawyers advise caution and a possible appeal. no action expected until October 4 argument before Judge Roan. Mrs Rhea Frank travels from Brooklyn as Frank rests at the tower.
American refugees arrive in force in Los Angeles after landing in San Diego. Sixty men and women were brought north from Guaymas aboard the U S cruiser Pittsburg. T L Findley, wounded by a bayonet in Durango, recounted a rebel raid on the city and a harsh view of the rebels. Other refugees corroborated his account.
Towed by a tug boat the Santa Maria Nina and Pinta copies of the Columbus fleet, which cruised to America, left here last night for the Panama-Pacific Exposition to be held in 1915. This is their second long voyage. They sailed from Spain in 1892 and have been anchored at Jackson Park near here since then.
Thomasville man C D Purser reports a fig juice remedy as a sure cure for warts. He claims accidental success when his daughter’s warts disappeared after applying fig juice and asserts similar results in other cases.
Mr Buckhalt received a broken leg when his motorcycle left Broad Street after passing the A C L railway and tipped into a ditch during a wide Carroll Hill turn. He was taken home for medical care and did not rest. His sister Miss Hattie Buckhalt was injured in Columbus when struck by a motorcycle and brought to Thomasville for recovery.
Thomasville Mayor Roscoe Luke, serving as city court solicitor, uses vagrancy laws to drive idle people into work. The result is empty loafing spots and many idle residents sent to labor in cotton fields under penalties of fifty dollars and costs or ninety days.
In Manhattan Island the postal service switches from horse drawn wagons to autos. The advance date is September 1 and the update marks the end of horse mail teams on the island.
Chicago figures show thirty-two people died during Fourth of July celebrations, the lowest since such statistics began. The Journal of the American Medical Association released the data, noting 466 deaths in 1903 for comparison.

Pat Murphy a Thomasville baseball star married Ella Sandford at the Sandford home on Jackson Street. Rev J B Johnstone officiated at 9 15 pm in a small ceremony attended by family and close friends. The couple to stay at Tesco Hotel through the closing of the post season, with Murphy praised for his success on the field and in life.

French aviator Pegoud loops the loop at eighteen hundred feet in a plane and lands unharmed. He had earlier stunned spectators by parachuting from an aircraft and later reached three thousand feet before a daring mid air somersault. He plans to repeat the feat tomorrow.
Knoxville Tenn September 1 The First National Conservation Congress opened with organized labor and Exposition officials backing the program President Wilson sent congratulations and former President Taft praised the movement The event focuses on natural resources especially forests and streams and will run for a month.

Atlanta Sept 1 Leo Frank is hard at work with his leading lawyers preparing the statement and appeal for the appellate court. His cell is fitted up like a living room and he is cheerful, eating well, sleeping eight or nine hours, and conversing with visitors as legal papers and decisions fill his desk.
The opening session in Montreal featured a welcome by Premier Borden to the United States legal luminaries gathered in Chicago mannered event. Viscount Haldane delivered the afternoon address while McGill University awarded honorary degrees. Jacob M. Dickinson and President Kellogg spoke in sequence.
Thomasville Georgia September 1 1913 Demonstration Agent J A Chastain visits county schools to urge boys to exhibit ten ears of corn and one stalk at the County Court House by September 19. Prizes include a $90 scholarship, a Macon exhibit trip, cash awards, a sheller, and pecan trees. County trustees will measure yield per acre and judge entries under County Fair rules. exhibits may go to the Macon Fair and return for county prizes.
The Ford auto owned by Mr. Frank Carter of Merrillville was torn up last night about four miles from town on Coolidge road. A car from Moultrie coming toward Thomasville misjudged their position, causing a collision. The Ford suffered heavy damage while the other vehicle was only slightly damaged. No injuries were reported and repairs to the Ford will be considerable.
