Senator Russell of Georgia warned that opposition to anti poll tax and civil rights bills will be just as strenuous in the new Congress as in the old. He said southern senators who led prior fights remain, and he hopes such measures are not brought up immediately to preserve harmony for essential legislation.

Washington, Nov. 22 AP reports Rep. Carlson says the coal strike endangers GOP plans to cut individual income taxes by 20 percent. He warns tax reductions depend on stable employment and a stable national income. Carlson, Ways and Means member and pay-as-you-go author, says a balanced budget could allow tax cuts next year if employment stabilizes. House GOP leaders plan to push tax cuts in January.
Mrs. Andrew Wurst hosted a Baptist Woman's Missionary Society gathering in Meigs on November 18 with chrysanthemums and narcissi decor. The program featured talks on Southern Baptists' work, devotional excerpts, and prayers, followed by a supper with sandwiches, coffee, fruit, and ambrosia.

The North Georgia Methodist Conference voted 258 to 87 to shift its annual session from November to a date between June and July 15 starting next year. The change follows other groups and includes laymen events and discussions of the board of laymen’s activities and stewardship plans. Retirement clergymen were honored with service badges for 36 recipients, and 16 ministerial applicants were admitted on trial.

Atlanta reports a locksmith opened a locked meeting hall used by the Columbian party after a gas attack last week. The party claims a lease right to meet there while the owners, the plumbers and steamfitters union, say the lease was breached and deny access. Columbian president Emory Burke calls the door incident part of a campaign by Jewish interests to crush their movement.
