President Hoover called for focus on cooperation to revive the economy after election noise. Emergency committee head Woods used radio to broaden a long distance outreach seeking city data on unemployment, building programs, and joint private-government efforts. Early reports show a 6.2 percent rise in this year’s campaigns over last year.
Franklin Dodge former federal prohibition agent was arrested in Lansing on a federal warrant charging perjury in Savannah Georgia. He was arraigned before a U S commissioner and held on a $5000 bail for a November 17 hearing. Dodge was linked to Remus and liquor law roundups.
Clare Hames, American actress, dies in London. Debuted in New York in 1918 and rose to fame as Lady Wildering in Declasse. Won acclaim in John Drinkwater's Mary Stuart with James K. Hackett and Hedda Gabler. Also appeared in American Theater Guild productions including Androcles and the Lion and Ned McCob's Daughter.
At Polo Grounds New York University led Georgia six to zero at halftime before a large crowd. NYU opened the second half with a 50 yard drive ending in a Hagret reception for a touchdown from Lamark. Georgia, previously Yale’s conqueror, faced shifts in its starting lineup as coach Harry Méhre rested key players.
The November report from the department of agriculture reduces U S cotton output to 14,438,000 bales of 500 pounds, ~0.3 percent below last year and about 390,000 bales lower than forecast a month earlier. A dynamite blast on a sidewalk in downtown Albany Georgia damaged a barber shop owned by J Ayin? and shattered windows for a half block. Police saw two men place a bomb on the sidewalk and believed the detonation was heard nearby. A $250 reward was posted for conviction as officials push an inquiry into the night attack.

Montgomery, Nov 8. A prowler identified as Burt Sanderson of Chicago was shot to death by George W. Thompson in the bedroom of his home early today. A confederate escaped. Thompson found $38 in Sandersons pockets, half of a roll of bills. Sanderson registered at a hotel as David Shepherd arriving yesterday. Police found watches and jewelry among his effects.
Chicago November 8 Manufacturers and wholesalers in the Chicago region report improved activity since September 1 but expect Christmas buying to be more conservative than last year according to a survey by the Chicago association of credit men.
Secretaries Hurley announced that all available army cots and blankets would be placed at the disposal of the unemployed to relieve acute distress this winter. He said he would assume responsibility in the absence of legal authority and instructed use under state supervision to avoid depleting armed forces stocks.
New York police arrested Franklin P. Ferguson a 41 year old attorney on charges of receiving stolen property in connection with the Lincoln National Bank daylight robbery. Ferguson allegedly arranged to sell $15 000 in bonds through Jepson Tremaine and Company and waited with cash at a hotel rendezvous after learning the bonds were stolen.
J Dol Thompson 55 a merchant was found dead by a gunshot at his Webb home. Authorities say he killed himself after learning his daughter Ollie Thompson 19 had been arrested in a North Carolina Mann act case. She escaped arrest in NC and was rearrested at his house before being jailed in Clarksdale.
Atlanta judge imposes one year on the chain gang and a $1000 fine on Jack White for a second bribery conviction. He already faced three years and $3500 in prior penalties. Jury took 20 minutes to convict on bribery connected to city truck purchases in June 1928. York faces related charges.
Carmel California November 8 Herbert Heron the poet mayor spoke openly for colored paving saying the pavement may be red green or blue and that he will not vote for ordinary paving. The city council will consider the idea.
Oakland reports a five to seven man gang robbed a Southern Pacific local train at Noble. Dressed in brown coveralls yellow caps and white masks they looted the mail car revealing payroll checks for Columbia Steel Works. One robber boarded at Berkeley and forced the engineer to stop. The gang fled in a stolen car while authorities sweep the hills east of San Francisco.
The four masted schooner Dunham Wheeler sank at 10 a.m. off Cape Canaveral. The crew were rescued by the steamer Aztec after flares were seen by the coastal freighter Upshur which relayed an SOS. The Aztec, bound from the West Indies to New York, towed no further details.
West Palm Beach Florida November 8 The fruit steamer Aztec reached the distressed schooner Dunham Wheeler of Cape Canaveral and rescued her crew No wireless aboard The Upshur sighted flares and sent S O S prompting the Aztec to respond to the call to tow the Upshur to Jacksonville
Major General Trasker H. Bliss, former army chief of staff in World War I who resigned in 1920, showed further deterioration from a long illness due to an intestinal ailment reported in Washington on November 8.

They pledge cooperation with the president and opposite party on measures for national welfare, with no blanket tariff revision and no blocking of necessary appropriations or appointments. Recounts loom in several close races as Republicans hold a narrow edge in the House and Senate.
Senator Brookhart Republican of Iowa says he may align with Democrats in the 72nd Congress if they fix Mellonism and cooperate with Hoover on constructive measures. He will wait to study the Democratic program and may back organization plans only if a resignation of Mellon is demanded.
Notre Dame defeated Penn at Franklin Field in Philadelphia drawing about 80 000 for the first meeting between the teams. The Irish, contenders for national honors, overwhelmed the Quakers in the first half, setting a high tempo in the early game.
