AP reports a sweeping Republican victory in 1920 with Harding leading in the presidential race and Republicans winning Congress. Early returns show Missouri and other states delivering large margins as Democrats concede defeat.
New York City voters show a Harding landslide in 783 districts across Greater New York with Harding at 785 574 votes and Cox at 346 535.
In Missouri on November 3, Harding leads with 383 841 votes and Cox 314 796 for the Senate. Spencer, Republican, has 371 821 and Long, Democrat, 271 045.
Payton Oregon reports show Cox carried by opponent in his own county by 12 votes. Oregon returns from 702 of 1699 precincts give Harding ahead of Cox by over 9000 votes.
Baltimore Maryland November 3 returns from about ninety percent of Maryland show Harding's lead over Cox. Continued on page eight.
New Orleans La Nov 3 Harding polled 17090 votes in the city with 8 of 157 precincts missing He carried ten known parishes and led in the third congressional district and 80 city precincts mainly uptown for a clear Republican win Cox had 31402 city votes The sugar belt third district was said to be top heavy Democratic candidates unopposed in the state.
Birmingham reports majorities for Harding in two Alabama counties with Rainey appearing re-elected in the seventh district by about three thousand. In Kentucky, Cox leads by a substantial margin, Becker is re-elected as Democrat, and seven Democrats and three Republicans look set for Congress, with the eighth district undecided.
Early returns from less than half the Oklahoma districts show the Democrats ahead by 3 000 to 4 000 votes. Harding wins solidly in St Petersburg Florida by 287. Tennessee unofficial totals widen Harding to about 4 500 and Taylor to over 20 000. Maryland returns show Harding leading Cox by more than 51 000.
Georgia returns from 575 of 1659 districts indicate Stuart Cox leading in early results against Harding. The report notes Atlanta as a key hub with preliminary figures reflecting Cox’s statewide advantage. Ballots counted span multiple counties with no final tally yet.
Dayton dispatch reports Governor Cox wired Senator Harding to pledge loyal support as a citizen to the executive authority in whatever emergency might arise after the election. He accepts the will of the majority and offers congratulations to the defeated candidate.
President Harding will take a two week vacation on the Texas coast and a week of scouting in the Panama canal zone before forming his cabinet and mapping policy after March, with return planned after mid December. He reviews telegrams of congratulations and tracks Senate and House results to gauge party strength and foreign policy impact.
Early returns show Republicans leading in key states with a large House margin and a strong Senate showing. California, New York and Ohio signal gains as Democratic losses mount, while Missouri reports Champ Clark trailing Republican challenger Hukriede in the ninth district.
The report lists Cox 53 309 and Harding 18 730 for Senate districts 488 giving Watson 40 260 and Edwards 4 892. For Governor Hardwick 15 659 Baylor 12 independent.
San Antonio Texas November 3 The congressional contest between Democrat Bee and Republican Harry Wurzbach remains undecided as several large boxes in the city have not yet reported though Wurzbach led by about two thousand votes.
Washington officials said private operation of railroads after federal control will cost the Federal government 656,000,000 for the first six months after control ends. Figures released by the Interstate Commerce Commission detail the financial impact and extension of public policy.
Tampa, Fla. Nov. 3 Fifty Negroes are at bay in woods near Ocoee after killing two whites and wounding three others. The surrounding group according to reports includes armed Black residents.
