Sheriff Hight oversees courthouse matters as residents share travel plans and local happenings. Mrs. E. M. Smith and Mrs. T. J. Roberts head to Atlanta and St. Louis for visits. Miss Billingsly lectures at Moultrie. Mr. Tucker and bride tour Washington and Niagara Falls.
Valdosta attorney and court stenographer Mr F E H Krauss and his wife are staying at the Stuart hotel. The southern circuit expert will remain in town until after court next week.
The Valdosta Times notes farmers in Thomas County who diversified beyond cotton are more prosperous, saving corn hay and other products for the future. Those who adopted diversification report better financial standing than cotton growers.
Four Baldwin eight wheel locomotives with 20 inch cylinders and 28 inch strokes, ordered for the Plant System in Savannah, are en route and to be received in the city soon. The locomotives will be used immediately upon arrival. The Thomasville Electric Light Company will illuminate Piney Woods hotel for the season, and demonstrations show the hotel will glow from basement to attic.
Police report two safes at Neel Bros and Taylor and Watson burglarized during the Thursday parade. Thieves took only papers and did not touch a money drawer at Neel. Will Taylor found insurance policies and notes scattered on a street near Fletcherville branch.
Policeman Fuller on Sunday morning investigated a fire at the home of Sam Neely, a blind Black man, after hearing gunshots. Neely claimed they tried to burn his house. kerosene was found soaked around the exterior and the shooters fled before officers arrived.
Savannah fair runs November 6 to 16 featuring premiums for school boys and girls in declamation and elocution across county and city systems. Prizes include 25 dollars for first in junior and senior declamation, 20 dollars for best girl elocution, with 10 dollar second prizes. Thomasville schools urged to enter. contact W. R. Cocoa cream cake and fruit were served and Dr H OC Foster closed with a song. Reporters note the group was charmed by their hostess.
