In Griffin Georgia Edwin Bates 18 pleaded guilty to murder after a quarrel with Troy Hand 17 over a insult. A life sentence was agreed upon after discussions with Hand's father who preferred imprisonment to electrocution. Hand died October 6 after being shot in January. Receivers of the Seaboard Airline Railway requested I C C approval for a 1.5 million dollar loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The filing states funds would pay creditor claims and cover labor material and supplies in the six months before receivership. Previously the company borrowed 3 million dollars from the Finance Corporation.
