Mitchell County Gets REA Loan For Storage Plant

Mitchell County Electric Membership Corporation was granted a $25,000 loan by the Rural Electrification Administration to build a refrigerated storage and processing facility near Camilla. The brick plant will cost about $10,000, feature meat processing and quick freeze rooms, and could serve 315 farm families plus city residents within ten miles. An option exists on two acres, with space for 200 pound lockers and potential expansion.

Camilla Farmers Market to Hire Refrigerated Plant Units

A plan for a successful Camilla farmers market links to a refrigerated storage and processing plant. Eighty eight landowners applied for plant use reporting 17 158 acres in cultivation 6747 hogs raised 742 beef cattle and 27 5 crates of eggs weekly. Contracts for construction and start dates to be announced. The Camilla plant joins a Piqua Ohio facility as cooperative owned and operated by REA farmers with power from REA lines.

Camilla Garden Club Hosts Plans and Dahlia Show

In Camilla on May 11 the Camilla Garden Club met in the Mitchell county court house with President Ef J Vann Jr presiding. Plans were discussed to award four prizes from the Camilla Lions Club for home owners and renters, with strong interest shown by local negro participants. A dahlia show is proposed for fall, with a townwide invitation to plant dahlias. The next meeting will be in the fall as clubs close for summer.
