May Day Ladies Golf Opens With 103 Entries

The annual May Day ladies golf tournament started this morning with 103 entries from locals and visitors. Heath Varnedee and Woody Woodall served as starters for the foursomes while Bill Bowers and Bob Parsons managed scoring and pairings for 18 holes of medal play. Mrs Tillie Mathis, defending champion, and local players Mrs Mary C Grubbs and Mrs Perry Blanton participated. A luncheon followed at noon under Mrs William Luckie’s direction.

Spring Dress Revue Celebrates 4 H and Home Demonstration

Members of the Boston Home Demonstration Club and guests from 4 H clubs modelled outfits at the annual spring dress revue. Mrs. Larry Gordon won first in the seamstress division while Mrs. Collins took first in consumer buying. Four H county winners and several demonstrators were noted with plans for district achievement and a Rose Festival float.

Thomasville High School PTA to Install Officers and Debate Champs

The Thomasville High School PTA meeting at 8 p m Thursday in the high school lecture room will install officers led by President Edwin Chambers and Mrs Chambers. The debate team will present a condensed version of their regional champion topic Control of Nuclear Energy.

Tallyho Garden Club Hosts Friday Picnic Meeting

The Tallyho Garden Club meets at 11 a.m. Friday at Mrs. Lee Singletary’s Clay Street home. Members bring a picnic lunch. drinks provided by the hostesses. New officers will be installed. Hostesses are Mrs. Robert McCauley, Mrs. O.S. O'Steen and Mrs. George Walker.

Birdwood Singers Touring Churches on goodwill tour

The Glee Club of Birdwood Junior College, a 30 voice choir, tours Primitive Baptist churches in Georgia and Florida and will perform at the Stephen Foster Memorial in White Springs Florida Sunday afternoon. Director Lee Yarbrough and Birdwood president J Harley Chapman accompany the group which opened with a program in Atlanta after leaving Thomasville Saturday. A fish fry on campus hosted by Mr and Mrs Chapman preceded the trip, and another at L H McGuffey’s home celebrated his birthday. The group recently returned from a Gulf fishing trip where about 450 pounds of fish were caught.

Space Promoting School Bond Issue

A student group named Space at Central High School mobilizes for a $300,000 June 16 school bond vote. Led by Tommy Kinchen and Martin Eaton, the group plans brochures, posters, mailings, and door to door campaigns with each student pledging votes. The effort involves precinct chairs, a poster contest with cash prizes, and widespread outreach across Thomas County.
