Washington D C May 2 The Dial bill requiring Federal Judges to devote their entire time to the duties of their offices was reported favorably today by the Senate judiciary committee.

It also notes Mr S A Cole returning to Wilmington after a week with H L Groover, and Matrons Bridge Club gathering hosted by Mrs J A Horn with no visitors.
London and Paris report Allied ministers demand a categorical yes or no from Germany by May 12 on reparations or face penalties. The terms include guarantees and enforcement penalties. Paris speaks of occupation of the Ruhr if ordered, with forces preparing for action. Jusserand in Washington says the U S seeks no stance to provoke Allies and favors settlement without Ruhr occupation.
A Havas report from London states Germany has twelve days to accept the Allied ultimatum on war preparations. The Ruhr Valley could be occupied immediately after if Berlin refuses, according to the draft declaration.
London reports that Britain will stage a naval demonstration should Germany take provocative action. Officials warn the fleet remains ready while diplomatic channels may still avert direct confrontation.
In Washington on May 2 the State Department said no official information was available and all comment on the Allied Supreme Council decision on German reparations was being withheld.
Mercer Baptists meet Thursday at First Baptist Church in Thomasville to organize a Associational B Y P U convention. The program features devotionals, addresses, demonstrations, and an open council with dinner at 1 p.m. Prominent state workers are to assist and several churches are expected to form B Y P U societies.
Washington May 2 The Supreme Court refused to permit John N. Taylor representing Eastern Emigrant Cherokees to intervene in the Red River oil land case. Taylor claimed large tracts in dispute belonged to his clients via a Van Buren grant covering fourteen million acres.
Chicago reports that employers in major cities accepted a 44 hour week sparing a nationwide strike in book and job printing. Isolated newspaper plant walkouts occurred. In New Orleans 200 printers planned to strike affecting 23 firms, St Louis area printers faced many shop walkouts, and in the West 900 printers prepared to strike with 400 in San Francisco and 130 in Salt Lake City voting to leave work.
The Employing Printers League announces a forty four hour work week for 15 000 print workers in New York City effective the first full week after May first. Typographical Union No 6 has approved the agreement, and no trouble is expected in the printing trade over the work week change.
About 1 800 paper workers in New England are idle today after refusing wage reductions of twenty to thirty percent. Em ployes at several plants have accepted the new scale.
In Atlanta on May 2 work in eleven job printing offices is at a standstill after employers and workers fail to agree on a 44 hour week. About sixty five men are affected.
Glenn Falls N Y May 2 John Burke president of the International Brotherhood of Pulp and Sulphite Paper Mill Workers announced all mills of the International Paper Company were forced to shut down at once with the nationwide strike against wage reductions. Several other big mills also closed.
New York May 2 The presidents of the subsidiary companies of the United States Steel Corporation conferred with Chairman Gary. No announcement was made but the revision of wage schedules was the main topic of discussion.
The will of Annie M Dustin, who died March 22 in California, was filed for probate in Thomas County Court of Ordinary. Executors named are Mary A Van Buren Newport Anne A Henderson Maine and John F Archbold Thomasville. The document details large bequests to many relatives and charities with Archbold named sole executor by agreement.
Lucius J. Holland a 45 year old prominent Bluefield lawyer Virginia married to Virginia Sizer a 32 year old stenographer killed his wife in a local hotel then took his own life by slashing his throat. The incident occurred Friday afternoon in Lynchburg Virginia with details reported from the morning.
