Mayor Stands For Queen in Miss Nashville Pageant

Nashville Tennessee AP Mayor Richard Fulton stands in as queen for a day during the Miss Nashville pageant. He will crown the 1976 queen after Brenda Joyce Thompson Lawrence became ineligible after adding Lawrence to her name and marrying soon after. The pageant, originally set for March 20, was postponed two weeks due to a school scheduling conflict.

MEAG Contract Signed Seeks Lower Rates for Georgia Cities

Thomasville Mayor J A Bracey signed a MEAG pact as part of a Georgia Cities power cooperative plan. If 85 percent of MEAG voting shares sign by April 5 the group will issue up to 1.52 billion dollars in bonds to build nuclear and coal plants over eight years. MEAG would own part of Georgia Power plants and sell power to member cities, offering potential savings despite higher fossil plant operating costs. The deal includes 17.7 percent of Hatch and Votgle nuclear plants and 10 percent of Wansley and Shearer fossil plants. Additional cities including Albany have signed or indicated intent to join.
