Alarmed by depopulation Turkey the Turkish nationalist parliament at Angora debates a bill to compel all men aged 25 to marry unless health prevented. bachelors over that age face heavy taxation while married men gain tax and military service privileges.
Rowland Mahany, sent by the Wilson administration, reported to the Secretary of Labor that balancing wages and currency conditions remains impossible for the laboring classes. The testimony cites adverse exchange and economic strain as central issues.
Lieutenant W D Coney, transcontinental flyer, crashed near Crowville Louisiana while attempting to land. He survived the DeHaviland wreck, was treated at a Natchez hospital, and his condition fluctuated with signs of pneumonia and possible recovery remains uncertain. Relatives and local groups prayed for his recovery as physicians evaluated his injuries.

Chicago March 28 The United States Railroad Labor Board dismissed appeals filed last fall by fifteen railway unions seeking higher wages for 67 short lines. Lines that accepted the six hundred million dollar wage award last July will not revert to the old scale. The board noted the decision does not affect current wage hikes or any existing agreements, and the ruling covers about 4 000 employees.
Paris March 28 The League of Nations finance commission began considering a plan to renounce pledges given by Austria in the St Germain treaty. The aim is to allow Austria to borrow against these pledges to buy raw materials and restart factories, improving its economy.
Georgia authorities press ahead with grand jury action in Jasper and Newton counties over a series of peonage and murder allegations tied to John Williams plantation. Clyde Manning, a former employee, is charged alongside Williams as bodies of eight Black women were unearthed, with confessions detailing grisly killings and interments.
The Supreme Court held profits from selling assets of a trust fund are taxable under the income and excess profits law. The court also ruled that the increase in value of capital investment is taxable as income under the 1916 Revenue Act. The decisions were announced in Washington D C on March 28.

In Chicago on March 28 a well dressed man approached a sidewalk crypt and a body of an unidentified man was found dead, about two months. A woman holding a Rosary and seen by Walter Jones, a factory watchman, scraped away cinders near a vacant lot before disappearing. Police search for the woman.
D. K. Roberts of Atlanta told the President about Georgia affairs as he seeks the Internal Revenue Collector post. He said the President denied reports that Charles Adamson of Cedartown had been chosen as referee on distribution of Federal patronage in the state.
In Statesboro Georgia on Sunday Jack Metts was shot dead by his father in law Bessenger after an argument at the Bessenger home. Mrs Bessenger was wounded in the arm and a 14 year old son of Bessenger was shot and a four year old was also injured. Bessenger later killed Metts and was released on his own recognizance with guard of his choosing.
Reports to the international relief organization describe a severe famine across Henan Shenai and Chiha with a daily death rate of about 1,000 in 22 Honan counties by March 15 and 300 daily in six northern Honan counties. Shensi province has recorded 50,600 famine deaths since the famine began.
Washington children gathered on the White House lawns for the first Easter Egg roll since 1917. The event drew free entry for all city youngsters with a Marine Band performing throughout the day in the President’s backyard.
Rome March 28. Dismissal of non American employees at the American embassy here has been ordered from Washington. The embassy says it is not worried about secret information exposure as it has guarded confidential correspondence with care. The embassy laments a reduced force and notes the current staff is comparatively new after cuts over the past year.
Earthquake tremors described as very severe were recorded on Georgetown University seismographs today. The quake was centered about 190 miles from Washington with maximum activity at 3 A.M.
Ford Motor Company reports total assets of more than 334 million dollars as of December 31. Unsecured indebtedness stands at more than 143 million dollars, per the annual report filed with the Secretary of State in Lansing.
London March 28 Baron Birkenhead, Lord Chancellor, told the Allied Brewery Traders Association banquet that British brewers have no cause for anxiety about dryness. He dismissed alarm over potential dry measures as unfounded and said the industry would weather any challenges.
