An explosion in the pharmacology laboratory at Emory University today injured six to eight students and several faculty members. Authorities believe the blast was caused by gas ignition. The laboratory suffered damage and windows were broken on campus amid graduation preparations.

Charleston WV March 24 Both houses of the State legislature yesterday passed the inter county jury bill allowing veniremen for du ries to be called from counties other than those where trials occur, broadening jury pools.
A major blaze in Quitman Georgia today destroyed the Thomas Elevator Company plant. Loss estimated at 200000 dollars. About 2000 bags of peanuts and 4000 bushels of corn were destroyed.
Archbishop and Primate of the American Catholic Church Cardinal James Gardinal-Gibbons died at his residence after a prolonged illness. He was 87. The Holy Father sent a cablegram of blessing and apostolic benediction. The funeral date was not yet announced.
Baltimore March 24 Cardinal Gibbons was noticeably weaker this morning and in a stupor through the night. Father Albert Smith said he felt doubtful the prelate would live the day out as physicians warned he might not regain consciousness.
Operating officials report a second deliberate wreck attempt on an A. Brand A. passenger train No. 1 from Brunswick to Fitzgerald near Thalmann. The East passing track switch was wedged with a bolt between rails. The engineer halted before the switch. no injuries reported as track dogs head to the scene.
March 24 report states Captain Wilfred Peek of the Royal First Devon Yeomanry was among those killed in yesterday’s clash between lancers and Sinn Fein near Stokestown and Longford. His widow, Edwine Ornburgh, formerly of St Louis, is named.

New York March 24 Immediate strike orders go out to engineers on ocean going towboats after owners cut wages. About 160 towboats affected most at 664. licensed deck officers and engine room crews expected to join the walkout per Engineers Beneficial Association and Thomas Healey general manager Marine.
Queen Marie of Romania declared upon returning to Athens that reports she is working to dethrone King Constantine and promote Crown Prince George and his wife Princess Elizabeth are without foundation. She asked the Associated Press to refute the stories.
Washington March 24 The Department of Agriculture released Texas from quarantine for sheep scabies effective April 15. Quarantines remain in ten California counties and parts of Louisiana.
President names Dwight Davis of St. Louis as director of the War Finance Corporation and John J. Esch of Wisconsin as a member of the Interstate Commerce Commission. Esch coauthored the Transportation Act.
Washington March 24 In come and profits tax collections for the March 15 instalments were estimated today by Secretary Mellon to aggregate 675000000. By March 22 depositions totaled 650000000 and the fiscal year ending June 30 is expected to reach 3050000000, in line with Treasury expectations.
