City moves on sewer expansion and traffic upgrades

Citty Commiston last night approved a $100,000 sewerage expansion tied to a new cross pipeline on Cherokee Lake and an upgrade plan supervised by Hydro Utility of Dicksonville. Commissioners also authorized a three way traffic light at Clay and Broad and three phase signals with left turn arrows in the downtown area. The panel deferred Red action on Flint River Scout Council’s lease request for Camp area. Mrs Wayne Freeman challenged the commission over the Thomasville Sint Scout Neighborhood appeal for a long term lease.

Committee To Study Library Transfer Plan

A proposal to transfer Annie Wright Memorial Library to the City of Thomasville was sent to a special committee. Mayor Johnson named Roy Lilly and Ed Kelly to study the plan and report next meeting. Library Board vice chairwoman Mrs. Jarrell urged city control citing growth and potential site near Pavo Airport.

Finch Jury Feud Reports Eyed For Probe

Los Angeles AP The Finch case jury room may have echoed the courtroom as Dist Atty William B McKesson seeks to learn what happened during eight days of deadlock. He orders an inquiry into reports of near violence and intimidation including a claim a juror threatened to throw a woman juror from a second story window. The probe cannot alter Finch Tregoff trial No 1 outcome. The state moves for an immediate second trial for Dr R Bernard Finch and Carole Tregoff for the murder of Finch’s wife last July 18. A new date is set Thursday. McKesson opposes bail pending the second trial.

City considers off street parking plan and charter issue

The City Commission formed a special committee to study leasing a Madison Street lot for off street parking at 150 dollars per month for a year with 90 day term after. Attorney says city charter may forbid parking business. mayor urges broader site for future expansion. The panel to report in two weeks.

Yonkers Baby Sitter and Three Children Die From Oxygen Loss

A Yonkers dispatch reports a baby sitter Jean Wicht aged 36 and three of Mrs. Teresa Alfano's children Theresa five Joseph three and Margaret two found dead in an apartment from oxygen deprivation caused by a gas burner under a hot water tank.
