New York reports former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey was admitted to hospital with appendicitis. Doctors said the operation went well but a serious infection led to peritonitis and possible gangrene. his condition remained guarded with updates expected in 72 hours.
Weather forecast covers South Carolina Georgia Florida and Alabama with clouds scattered thunderstorms in interior and coastal areas. Saturday shows partly cloudy conditions with possible showers in extreme regions and cooler temperatures in northwest portions. The Tobacco Association of the United States fixed Georgia tobacco markets to open July 25 as the first to start. The Guba flying boat landed at Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands, after a 3200 mile trans Atlantic flight from French West Africa. Commanded by Richard Archbold of the American Museum of National History, it arrived around 3 40 a m and waited for daylight at Pan American Airways airport. It is scheduled to depart for New York at daylight tomorrow, having launched from Dakar at 7 10 a m EST yesterday.
