Mutineers in Rangoon central jail killed two sentries and 11 guards, plus two military police, a truck driver, and 40 convicts. Several hundred prisoners seized rifles after uprising sparked among malcontents over Simon Report, prompting two hours of hand to hand fighting before surrender.
Prisoners seized the Rangoon armory prompting a two hour clash with guards. Several convicts and six guards wounded, one prison van driver killed, as military police helped quell the uprising. (Continued on Page Four)
Amos W. Woodcock of Salisbury Maryland has been chosen to direct enforcement of prohibition duties. The 42 year old former district attorney and Hoover commission aide brings long legal experience and a record of fair and efficient service. The Williamson bill created the post, and senate approval is not required.
Census figures released by the Commerce Department show New England states ranked second to cotton states in spindles in place and active during May. National totals show 34,207,374 spindles in place, with 28,595,569 active on May 31 at 83.6 percent capacity on a single shift. New England reported 13,631,842 spindles in place with 9,456,396 active and 1,762,384,607 active spindle hours across the region.
The house declined to concur in the senate amendment to the rivers and harbors omnibus bill and sent the measure to conference to resolve differences. Chairman Dempsey urged the conference while predicting agreement on projects totaling 27.6 million dollars and enactment this week. Conferees named include Dempsey of New York strong of Pennsylvania and Mansfield of Texas.

W M Hutchinson secretary of the division testified that more than half the association's Georgia expenses were paid by cottonseed industries in the state. He outlined industry development and said many mills had been forced out of business and mergers were used to prevent bankruptcy.

Republican leaders plan a caucus and a substitute to meet Hoover’s likely veto amid calls for a compromise and possible higher taxes. The measure would liberalize veterans law, extend up to 100 dollars monthly for disabled vets and presume service connection for certain disabilities before 1930.

The message notes the plane sent a beacon to the steamship Ingame and was near the Cape Race area while weather worsened but began to leave the storm.
The Southern Cross, captained by Charles Kingsford Smith, departed from Newfoundland toward New York on June 24 seeking the first westward air crossing of the Atlantic.
