Ford Motor Company unveils the 1949 Ford with a new long low silhouette and advanced features. Major engineering changes include hydra coil suspension, Hotchkiss drive, hypoid rear axle, floating engine mounts, an enhanced heating system, and improved aerodynamics for better economy and performance.
Miss Frances Elizabeth Parker daughter of Mrs Atticus Haygood Parker of Bainbridge Georgia married Donald Hugh McLean son of Mrs J H Russell of Winnipeg Canada in a June 15 ceremony at First Methodist Church Savannah Beach officiated by Reverend Weyman Cleveland. The couple hosted a reception at Miss Elizabeth Maves home, then departed for a mountain wedding trip. Out of town guests included J Belser Morris and many relatives from Georgia Florida and South Carolina.
Cairo Kiwanis luncheon features Mrs George Clark discussing the real meaning of American citizenship. She urges clearer concept, responsible citizenship, moral welfare, and Christian principles, praising the community’s new $50,000 pool and youth programs. Clark cites education plans, hospital care, and wiser voting as path to a richer life.
Donalsonville June 17 Seminole County teachers attend a GSCW workshop at Milledgeville Blakely summer to pursue college degrees and higher certificates and to learn the twelve grade program. Staff are well qualified with 85 teachers from six counties. Donalsonville attendees include Mrs Gordon Bagley Agnes Killian H R Dozier Thomas Gibbons Mrs K C Johnson Mrs J W Kirkland Miss Ethel Lare and Mrs J D Rabon.
The Georgia Baptist Convention announces a Preachers School at Cairo’s First Church from Monday June 28 at 2 30 PM through July 1. Faculty includes Rev F J Hendrik Dr Geo C Gibson Rev Gaither Briggs and Dr John Jeter Hurt Sr. Cairo Church and Evangelism Dept provide lodging and meals at no cost to attending pastors. Those planning to stay overnight should contact Rev Thos B Roote or Rev Robt C Perry Jr.
Firemen answered a late night alarm at the First Methodist Church Cairo when a shorted electrical circuit in the chimes amplifier caused light damage. A crowd gathered and was invited to a prayer meeting held in the church in a few minutes by Chief Boyd Van Landingham.

The bride entered with her father and was met at the altar by the groom and best man Woodloom Pearson of Stanbridge. She wore a ballerina length white satin gown with lace over-skirt and cap sleeves, a lace fingertip veil, a white orchid, and a single pearl necklace from the groom. After a short South Carolina wedding trip, the couple will reside on Monroe Street in Bainbridge.
