Flaming Oil Spews From Sunken Tanker After Fog Collision

In a dense fog off Scituate last night the tanker Pinthus collided with the passenger liner Fairfax. Flames enveloped both ships, the tanker sank with all crew aboard and many Fairfax passengers and crew remain unaccounted. Seaman J. B. Walker of Kittery, Me., rescued a woman from the blaze but perished in the effort. The Fairfax, bound to Norfolk, reported 71 passengers and 70 crew. at least eleven were injured and about forty missing.

Bank of Bay Biscayne Closes as Depositors Guarded

Miami June 11 doors of the Bank of Bay Biscayne failed to open with a sign reading closed by order of directors for the protection of depositors. The bank reported deposits of 15 037 198 and resources of 17 182 292 with affiliated institutions Biscayne Trust Miami Beach Bank and Trust and Bank of Coral Gables also closed to protect depositors due to withdrawals. J H Gilman president cited recent withdrawals and Arthur W Saarinen oversaw the institution.

House Appropriations Committee Advances Large Outlay Bill

The appropriations measure calls for 66.2 million offshore outlay with 51 million extra for contingencies and rapid funding of federal departments. Washington June 11 The tariff bill faces a final Senate vote at two o clock Friday with a possible one or two vote margin. Plane Stealer Blames Predicament on Liquor

Allan Scott the youthful Pine Bluff pilot blamed a little too much liquor for his troubles after breaking jail in Mississippi and stealing an Arkansas Power and Light Company plane yesterday. He returned by car today and was detained for Leland authorities on jail breaking and plane larceny charges. He said he had no plan to steal the aircraft or take it to Mexico.

Ran som A Bell of Waynesboro took out a $5,000 policy delivered Oct 1 1922 with an agreement to pay Oct 14 or 16. Bell died Oct 22 and his estate sued for policy value.

Norris and Phinazee Convicted and Sentenced by Jury

The Norris case jury returned guilty verdicts after a night session. Norris drawn sentences of one to two years in the state penitentiary while Phinazee received one year with no mercy. Bail was denied pending a new trial, and an August hearing was set.
