The Thomasville Guards are invited to spend the Fourth of July in Moultrie as guests of the Moultrie Rifles. Company B urges the Fourth Regiment to mobilize there with several other regiments joining in the festivities. General Wooten approves with expectations of military showcase in Colquitt county. Plans include a team battle drill and dress parade with railroads offering special rates.
Thomas county grown melons of the season were brought to town on Thursday. A fine wagon load of the Thomas variety, grown on the farm of Messrs. James and Charles Stewart of the 17th district, were sold to J. J. Dixon the Jackson street grocer. They retailed at forty cents each.
The street force under Officer Walker works on Water Street from Paradise Park to South Street to satisfy a petition by W P Grantham who will build there. Crews lay 70 feet of pipe at one dollar per foot to cross Gordon Ave and remove stout stumps in a woods area as the new highway improves suburban appearance.
Thomasville native Joseph Prevatt earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from George Washington University in Washington DC. Formerly in the interior department under Hoke Smith he will leave civil service to practice medicine, possibly returning south. The report also notes the birth of a grandson to Edward and Lonsberg families and a christening soon.
Sheriff Hight captured Humphrey Sneed between Ozell and Barwick after months of shooting affrays and row dynamics in the county. He was wounded at capture and faces new charges while a wave of fear ends as he remains behind bars.
Mr. R. Burch Jr of the University of Georgia law department came home for summer vacation. He reports the Thomasville colony in Athens is well and happy. Joe Craiguilles will receive his diploma late this month. W. B. Hambleton Jr will return in a few weeks after a year in Junior Law.
Another Thomasville man has been employed by C. W. Cook sales manager for Griffley Bros. Co. Mr. T. L. Wyche has recently accepted a position with this firm and is now in Alabama in their interests.
The Cracker Gun Club approved inviting gun clubs from Moultrie Americus Tallahassee Albany Bainbridge Boston and Quitman to join a big Fourth of July tournament with prizes and a full program to be published soon. Officers were re elected led by Dr. W. S. Brown president and O W Cooper secretary treasurer. A practice shoot yielded scores Watson 19 Brown 17 Howell 17 Cooper 16 Wyilly 15 Way 1. K D M Rogers of Pelham was in the city Saturday.
Confederate Veterans reunion at Louisville Kentucky from June 14 to 16 1905. Atlantic Coast Line offers coupon station tickets June 10 11 12 at one cent per mile travel plus twenty five cent tickets with return by June 19. City council held a Thursday meeting to decide the light issue. Council adopted a Mitchell plan to hire an expert to assess the Light Company properties and propose a price not to exceed 85,000. Gamble’s arbitration offer with 40,000 maximum was rejected.
Jas T Hirst the plumber installed a pressure gauge on the water main near his Madison street shop a public readout of pressure is visible. He claims the device was placed to illustrate concerns over insufficiency of pressure and was moved from 4 main on Madison street to its current testing location under Superintendent J A Epply’s orders.
The Times Enterprise reports two cotton blooms picked June first near Merrillville and Ochlockonee showing early ripening. J B Barwick and G S Long/ M F Long and brothers own the fields, with 25 acres in fine shape. Also first cantaloupe ripens at L A Varnes patch, while local railroad worker Dick Young is buried.
The Georgia department of agriculture reports cotton acreage down 13 percent and fertilizer use under cotton down 14 percent. Sugar cane acreage falls 8 percent with 98 prospect, corn up 7 percent with 197 prospect, oats down 3 percent with 98 prospect, and peach and pear crops each fall 40 percent.

Thomasville Georgia council, in adjourned session June 2 1905, heard a plan from the Thomasville Electric Light and Gas Co to sell its entire plant for 40000 dollars or less as fixed by three experts. The Light Committee was authorized to obtain expert valuation and present a firm offer pending election confirmation. The council also ordered the city hall bell repaired.
Tokio reports Rojestvensky resting well with no dangerous symptoms and a speedy recovery seems certain. The officers of the Russian battleship Orel declined parole, granted another day to decide on the matter.
